Chapter 10 - A New DawnThree days later, the autumn sun shone brightly over the manicured hedges of the Long Island Rinaldi estate. The mansion was peaceful once again, rid of the poison and betrayal that had festered within its walls for so long.

Massimo sat on a wrought-iron bench by the grand marble fountain in the courtyard, reading a financial report. His legs were crossed comfortably, his posture relaxed and strong.
Light footsteps echoed down the stone pathway.
Little Nina appeared in her soft cotton dress, her curly brown hair bouncing as she ran across the grass. In her hands, she carried her familiar little plastic basin filled with warm water and lavender oil.
Right behind her walked Carla, carrying a fresh linen towel, her expression a mix of lingering nervousness and profound relief.
Nina stopped right in front of Massimo, setting the basin down on the grass with a splash of warm water. She looked up at him with her wide, innocent eyes and dimpled smile.
"Uncle! Your feet still need washing today!" Nina announced cheerfully.
Massimo smiled—a genuine, warm smile that the Rinaldi estate hadn't seen in over a decade. He set his papers aside, leaned forward, and gently placed his shoes and socks on the grass, sliding his feet right into the warm, soapy water.
Nina giggled, cupping the warm water over his ankles, splashing a few droplets onto his trousers.
Massimo looked up at Carla, who stood quietly a few paces away, watching her daughter with tender love.
"Carla," Massimo said softly.
She stepped forward, her hands clasped nervously in front of her gray uniform. "Yes, Mr. Rinaldi?"
"You don't need to wear that uniform anymore," Massimo said, his gray eyes steady and kind. "And you don't need to hide who you are, Carla Moretti. The past is buried. But if you and Nina are willing... I want you both to stay here. Not as employees, but as family."
Carla’s eyes widened, and tears of pure joy spilled down her cheeks. She slowly lowered her head in deep gratitude. "Thank you, Massimo... thank you."

Massimo looked back down at little Nina, who was happily scrubbing his feet with the washcloth, completely unaware that she had saved a mafia empire, toppled traitors, and rewritten history.
As the golden autumn sunlight washed over the courtyard, Massimo Rinaldi finally knew that tomorrow was going to be a very good day.
