Chapter 6 - The Trap is SetDean forced a harsh, desperate laugh as Massimo stopped a few feet away from him. "Come to gloat, Massimo? You think you've secured your throne, but the underworld is a pack of wolves. The moment you show weakness at tomorrow night's banquet, the Colombians and the Chicago outfit will tear you to pieces."

Massimo didn't raise his voice. He walked slowly around Dean and Julian, his footsteps echoing ominously off the stone walls.
"You always talked too much, Dean," Massimo said calmly. "For twelve years, I listened to your advice, trusted your strategies, and believed in your loyalty. Do you know what hurts the most? Not the betrayal itself. But the sheer lack of imagination. Hiring a crooked doctor to administer slow poison? A staged ambush on Brooklyn Avenue? It’s amateurish."
Dean sneered, straining against the heavy iron shackles. "Call it amateurish all you want, but it put you in a wheelchair for six months! And it proved that you're just a mortal man, Massimo—one who can be overthrown just like your father before you."
Massimo stopped walking and turned to face him. A terrifying, razor-sharp smile touched the corners of his mouth.
"You think I'm worried about the syndicate bosses coming to tomorrow night's dinner?" Massimo’s voice was a lethal whisper. "Let them come. I've sent out formal invitations to every single capo, underboss, and rival leader on the East Coast. I told them the Rinaldi empire is holding a grand banquet to celebrate my full recovery... and to cleanse the house of traitors."
Julian Hale whimpered, sliding down the stone wall until he sat in a heap on the floor. "You're walking into a slaughterhouse, Massimo... They'll all come armed. They'll try to assassinate you all at once."
"Let them try," Massimo replied smoothly. "Because by the time they walk through the doors of the Brooklyn estate, every single one of their lieutenants, smuggling routes, and offshore accounts will already be under my direct control. Rocco has spent the last six months mapping out every rat hole in their organizations. Tomorrow night isn't a dinner party, gentlemen. It’s an execution."
Massimo turned his back on them and began walking toward the exit.
"Wait!" Dean shouted frantically. "Massimo! Spare me! I know where the offshore Swiss accounts are hidden! I know who funded the Colombian hit squad! I can be useful to you!"
Massimo paused at the doorway without turning around. "You were useful once, Dean. Now, you're just loose trash."
He stepped out into the hallway, signaling Rocco to lock the heavy steel door.
As the iron bolt slid home with a resounding clack, Massimo walked back up to the main floor. The rain was still lashing against the windows of the grand mansion, but inside, the air felt crisp, charged with an unstoppable momentum.

He walked down the dimly lit hallway toward the staff quarters. He stopped outside Carla’s door. He raised his hand to knock, then hesitated. Through the small wooden panel, he could hear the soft, melodic hum of a lullaby. Carla was singing to her daughter, soothing her back to sleep after the terrifying events of the day.
Massimo lowered his hand, turned around, and walked back to his study to review the battle plans for the following night. He knew that tomorrow, the Rinaldi empire would either rise to unprecedented heights or be drowned in a sea of blood. And at the center of it all was a tiny three-year-old girl who had washed his feet and awakened a sleeping giant.
