Chapter 19 - Blood and Inheritance

The revelation of Julian Vance’s survival changed the entire landscape of our reality. He wasn't just a rogue investor or a disgruntled syndicate boss; he was the estranged patriarch of the old-world European branch of our family—a man who had built a multi-billion-dollar empire on international arms trafficking, political corruption, and corporate espionage before faking his own death two decades ago.

By sunrise, the financial counter-attack was fully deployed. I liquidated three major secondary holdings, funneled fifty million dollars into stabilizing Vance Global’s stock price, and completely locked down our digital infrastructure behind military-grade firewalls.

"He's coming for everything," I said, staring at the surveillance maps of the estate displayed on my study monitors. "Julian doesn't care about the money. He cares about dominance. He wants the Vance name to be absolute, and he won't tolerate a splinter faction running Chicago independently."

Emma stood beside my wheelchair, her hands resting calmly on the armrests. Her presence was an anchor in the sudden, violent storm of our new reality.

"Then we don't wait for him to make the first move," she said quietly, her hazel eyes fierce. "If he wants a war of inheritance, we take the fight to his doorstep."

"It's not that simple, Emma," I warned, turning to look up at her. "Julian isn't Marcone or Cruz. He has governments in his pocket, international intelligence assets, and an army of mercenaries who operate across three continents."

"I don't care if he has an army," Emma replied, her voice dropping into a register of absolute, unshakeable conviction. "You built this fortress, Danny. You survived the sniper's bullet, you survived Marcone, and you survived the dark. I am not going to let some ghost from your family tree walk in here and take away everything we’ve fought for."

Before I could answer, the estate’s master alarm system suddenly shrieked to life.

Red emergency lights flooded the corridors, and the high-pitched klaxon echoed through the fortress. On the security monitors, the external perimeter sensors began flashing red one by one as the video feeds from the outer gates flickered and died.

"They're here," Luke’s voice crackled over the encrypted radio comms, breathless and urgent. "They've breached the outer gates with an EMP device! Security systems are down! They're coming up the main drive!"
