Chapter 4 - THE FALSE COMA AND THE MIAMI DECEPTIONThe ICU room on the fourth floor of San Javier Private Hospital was dimly lit. The steady beep... beep... beep of the heart monitor echoed in the sterilized air.

Daniela walked in slowly, flanked by two armed police officers and her attorney, Sofia.
Mauricio was sitting up in bed. There were no IV lines in his arms. No oxygen mask on his face. He was holding a cup of black coffee, looking completely relaxed, as if he had just woken up from an afternoon nap rather than a near-fatal collapse.
When he saw Daniela, he didn't look guilty. He smirked.
“You always were too smart for your own good, Daniela,” Mauricio said, taking a slow sip of his coffee. “I must admit, having my mother and sister arrested was a nice touch. I didn't think you’d have the spine to throw Ofelia to the wolves.”
Daniela stopped at the foot of his bed. “You poisoned yourself.”
“A non-lethal micro-dose of Synthetic Tetrodotoxin mixed with a atropine buffer,” Mauricio corrected casually, setting his coffee cup down on the tray. “It slows the heart rate to near zero, mimics a massive myocardial infarction, and flushes out of the bloodstream within four hours without leaving permanent tissue damage. Enough to make me collapse, create absolute chaos, and give my mother the green light to execute the plan.”
“Except your mother didn't realize she was your fall guy,” Sofia barked. “We showed her the flight tickets to Miami with Vanessa. She confessed everything, Mauricio. She gave up the locations of your offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands.”
Mauricio laughed—a cold, hollow sound that filled the room.
“Confessed? Confessed to what? That she put powder in a wine glass?” Mauricio leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. “Check the corporate papers again, lawyer. Who owns Aura Architecture as of midnight?”
Sofia instantly unlocked her iPad, her fingers flying across the screen. Suddenly, her eyes widened in horror. “No... this is impossible. The board of directors held an emergency vote at 9:00 PM tonight?”
“While I was in the back of that ambulance, yes,” Mauricio smiled triumphantly. “You see, Daniela, while you were busy playing detective with your hidden cameras over the last thirty days, I was buying out your silent investors. I bought 51% of Aura Architecture through a shell company registered in Delaware. Under the corporate charter you signed eight years ago, if the founder is implicated in an ongoing criminal investigation involving domestic terrorism or poisoning, voting rights automatically transfer to the majority shareholder.”
Daniela felt the floor beneath her sway slightly, but she forced herself to remain grounded. “I haven't been implicated in anything. Your mother was caught on camera!”
“Was she?” Mauricio pulled a small remote control from under his pillow and pressed a button. A wall-mounted TV turned on, displaying a live breaking news broadcast from Valle News Channel 9.
A dramatic red banner flashed across the bottom of the screen:
BREAKING NEWS: FAMOUS ARCHITECT DANIELA RUIZ ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED POISONING OF HUSBAND DURING CHRISTMAS EVE DINNER. MOTHER-IN-LAW CLAIMS SELF-DEFENSE.
The news anchor’s voice filled the room: “Sources close to the prosecution report that a second, unedited video has surfaced showing Daniela Ruiz purchasing neurotoxins on the dark web using corporate funds...”
“You framed me,” Daniela whispered, realization dawning on her. “The thirty-day archive... you knew I was recording.”
“Of course I knew!” Mauricio sneered, rising from the bed and standing tall. He looked completely healthy, powerful, and ruthless. “I let you install those cameras! I let you feed your foolish sense of superiority while I altered the video metadata. The file you handed to Detective Vance tonight isn't the original. It’s a deepfake rendering produced by my team three weeks ago. By the time Vance’s cyber-forensics team finishes analyzing the server, they won't see my mother poisoning me... they will see you dropping the capsule into my glass while she tried to stop you!”
Daniela stared at the man she had loved, supported, and built a life with for nearly a decade. He wasn't just a parasite—he was a psychopath who had orchestrated a complete corporate and personal execution.
“You ruined your own mother’s life just to take my company?” Daniela asked, her voice dangerously calm.
“My mother is an ignorant parasite who spent my entire life leeching off me,” Mauricio said dismissively. “She’ll spend five years in a minimum-security facility, and I’ll pay her off with a million dollars when she gets out. As for you, Daniela... you’re going to prison. And everything you built—every building, every dollar, every piece of land—belongs to me and Vanessa now.”
He walked past her toward the closet where a fresh, tailored suit was hanging. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, Detective Vance’s superiors are downstairs waiting to execute an arrest warrant for you, Daniela.”
Daniela didn't run. She didn't scream. Instead, she took out a small silver pocket watch—a heirloom given to her by her late father—and checked the time.
It was 11:45 PM.
“Fifteen minutes,” Daniela said softly.

Mauricio stopped buttoning his jacket. “Fifteen minutes for what?”
“Fifteen minutes until Christmas Day,” Daniela replied, turning around to face him with a look of absolute, terrifying serenity. “And fifteen minutes until the real archive unlocks.”
