Chapter 5 - THE SWISS PROTOCOL AND THE DEAD MAN'S SWITCHMauricio froze, his hand hovering over his silk tie. “What are you talking about?”

“You think you’re the only one who knows how to play with servers, Mauricio?” Daniela took a step toward him. “You spent thirty days preparing a fake video feed to frame me. But you forgot one basic rule of architecture.”
She leaned in, her eyes locking onto his.
“Never build a skyscraper on a foundation you didn't dig yourself.”
Sofia stepped forward, holding up her iPad, which was now displaying a completely different screen—a black terminal with green cascading lines of code originating from an IP address in Zurich, Switzerland.
“Mauricio,” Sofia said, her voice dripping with venomous satisfaction. “Did you really think Aura Architecture was protected by standard Mexican corporate laws? When Daniela founded the firm eight years ago, she structured the core intellectual property under a Swiss holding company—Valle Real Helvetica AG.”
Mauricio’s face twitched. “So what? I buy the shares, I buy the voting rights!”
“No, you bought dummy shares,” Daniela explained smoothly. “The investors you bribed over the past month? They were shell entities created by my legal team two years ago when I first suspected you were stealing from the company. I sold you those fake shares, Mauricio. You spent $4 million of your stolen money to buy equity in a company that exists only on paper!”
Mauricio’s face went dead white. “That’s... that’s impossible! The Delaware filings—”
“Are completely worthless,” Sofia interrupted. “And as for the video feed... you thought you altered the metadata on my local router? Mauricio, my hidden cameras weren't connected to the house Wi-Fi. They were transmitting live via a direct satellite uplink to a secure cloud server managed by a independent security firm in Geneva.”
Mauricio backed away, his confidence shattering into a thousand pieces. “No... no! The news report!”
“A paid press release you bought through a crooked PR agency,” Daniela said dismissively. “Which my team is currently suing for libel. But that’s not the best part.”
Daniela walked over to the hospital window, looking down at the street below. A convoy of black SUVs with dark-tinted windows pulled up to the main entrance of the hospital, accompanied by federal law enforcement vehicles with red-and-blue strobes flashing.
“Who is that?” Mauricio whispered, panic finally creeping into his voice.
“That isn't municipal police, Mauricio,” Daniela turned back to him. “That’s the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Federal Attorney General’s Office.”
Mauricio’s breath hitched. “Why would federal agents be here for a domestic poisoning case?”
“Because of what’s in the true 30-day archive,” Daniela revealed. “I didn't just record the dining room, Mauricio. I recorded the private office in the basement where you met with the operators of the Jalisco Financial Cartel every Tuesday night.”
Mauricio stumbled backward, hitting the wall. His eyes were wide with total, unadulterated terror.
“You thought you were framing me for a simple poisoning,” Daniela continued, her voice echoing in the small hospital room like a judge delivering a death sentence. “In reality, I was letting you dig your own grave. I allowed you to proceed with your absurd poisoning plot tonight because I needed you to commit a flagrant, undeniable federal crime on camera—giving federal agents immediate authorization to seize all your assets, intercept your communications, and freeze your offshore accounts before you could transfer the cartel's money to Miami.”
At that exact moment, the heavy wooden door of the ICU room burst open.
Four heavily armed federal agents wearing black tactical gear and carrying submachine guns swarmed the room.
“Mauricio Ruiz!” the lead federal commander barked, aiming a red laser sight directly at Mauricio’s chest. “Hands where we can see them! You are under arrest for high-level money laundering, criminal conspiracy, and treason!”
Mauricio’s hands went straight into the air. He trembled uncontrollably, his former arrogance completely crushed.
“Daniela... please!” Mauricio begged, tears streaming down his face as an agent slammed him face-first against the wall and pulled his arms behind his back. “Daniela, tell them it’s a mistake! I loved you! We built this together!”
Daniela walked up to him, stopping inches away from his face as the cold steel handcuffs snapped around his wrists.
“You didn't love me, Mauricio,” she whispered softly. “You loved my shadow. But you forgot that a shadow only exists because of the light behind it.”

She reached down, took the silk pocket square from his jacket, and gently wiped the dried blood from her cheek.
“Merry Christmas, Mauricio.”
