Chapter 5 - The Ambush at the Penthouse

Three days passed in a blur of terrifying revelations.
Mariana was moved into Alejandro’s heavily fortified penthouse suite overlooking the Chapultepec Castle. News of the "Flea-Market Wife Who Inherited a Billion-Dollar Empire" went insanely viral across social media. Millions of women across the globe hailed Mariana as an icon of resilience, while Ricardo’s name became synonymous with corporate greed and pathetic cowardice.
However, behind closed doors, a deadly war was brewing.
Ricardo, using corrupt contacts and deep-pocket bail money provided by Don Héctor’s criminal organization, was released on temporary house arrest pending trial. Don Héctor—a ruthless elderly mobster who controlled corrupt politicians and shadow companies—could not allow Mariana to take formal control of the Garza shares. If she signed the legal deeds on Friday morning, Don Héctor's entire empire would crumble under federal scrutiny.
It was Thursday night, twelve hours before the official signing ceremony.
Inside the secure penthouse, Mariana sat at a glass desk, reviewing thousands of pages of complex legal documents. Alejandro stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, sipping espresso while discussing security logistics over an encrypted headset.
Suddenly, the lights went completely black.
The emergency generators didn't turn on. The electronic door locks clicked open with a chilling mechanical buzz.
"Mariana, get down!" Alejandro roared, drawing a concealed firearm from his holster.
Before Mariana could drop to the floor, the heavy oak doors were blown off their hinges with a silent explosive charge. Four men wearing night-vision goggles and tactical gear swarmed into the room, armed with silenced submachine guns.
Behind them stepped a figure in a tailored grey suit.
It was Ricardo.
He held a silver revolver in his hand, his eyes bloodshot, wild, and totally unhinged.
"Hello, my darling wife," Ricardo sneered, his voice dripping with madness. "Did you really think a few bodyguards could protect you from Don Héctor?"
Alejandro fired two quick shots, but one of the tactical mercenaries rushed him, tackling the billionaire against the glass window. The weapon skittered across the polished floor. Alejandro fought back brutally, landing powerful strikes, but two other armed men pinned the billionaire against the wall, holding a knife to his throat.
Ricardo walked slowly over to Mariana, gripping her by her hair and forcing her to look up at him.
"Look at you," Ricardo laughed psychotically. "Still trying to play the big boss. You ruined my life, Mariana! My accounts are frozen! My name is trash! Paola is turning state’s evidence against me! But Don Héctor promised me $10 million and a new identity in South America... all I have to do is make sure you sign these transfer papers giving your shares to him, and then put a bullet through your brilliant little brain."

Ricardo slammed a stack of legal documents onto the desk in front of her, shoving a pen into her trembling hand.
"Sign it," Ricardo hissed in her ear. "Sign it, or I kill Alejandro right now."
