📜 CHAPTER 9: The Double-Cross

My breath caught in my throat. He knew.

"You think you can ruin me with that?" I countered, forcing a cold laugh. "Doña Elena is dead. The doctor is dead. The papers are ashes. You have no proof, Andrew. To the world, you are a convicted felon using a fake identity to manipulate stock."

"Oh, I don't need to prove it to the world, Lucia," he whispered, pulling a digital tablet from his briefcase and sliding it across the glass table toward me. "I just needed to prove it to them."

The screen displayed a live financial ticker. Villareal Prime Holdings' stock was plummeting in real-time. Millions of pesos were evaporating every second.

"What did you do?!" I demanded.

"While you were busy playing the corporate queen, I bought out your suppliers," Andrew said, his smile widening. "Apex Global didn't just buy 35% of your shares to be a silent partner. We shorted your stock, leaked rumors of a massive internal investigation regarding your illegitimate claim to Doña Elena's trust, and forced a bank run on your primary lenders. By midnight tonight, Villareal Prime Holdings will face forced liquidation. You will be bankrupt."

I felt the room spinning. He hadn't come to kill me. He had come to bleed me dry, using the exact same calculated, cold-blooded corporate tactics I had used against him.

"Unless..." Andrew stood up, walking slowly around the long table until he was standing right behind me, his breath hot against my ear. "...you sign over the San Juan ancestral house and 25% of your personal shares to me. Let's call it a settlement. You keep your crown, I get my birthright back. We walk away equals."

I looked at the falling stocks on the screen. If I didn't sign, the empire my mother died for would collapse into nothingness. If I signed, I would be letting the devil back into my house.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and pulled out my pen. "Fine. You win this round, Adrian."

May you like

I signed the contract. He snatched the paper, his eyes flashing with the triumphant, greedy look I remembered from three years ago.

"Pleasure doing business with you, cousin," he mocked, turning on his heel and walking out of the boardroom, victorious.
