Chapter 2 - THE SOUND BEHIND THE STEEL DOORThe phone speaker crackled in the heavy silence of the kitchen, transmitting the frantic echoes of Teresa Villaseñor’s world collapsing in real-time.

"Open this door immediately by order of the State Attorney General's Office!" a stern official voice echoed through the line, clashing violently against Teresa’s muffled, high-pitched shrieks of protest.
Rodrigo stood frozen, the heavy silver can of equine sedative and growth stimulants still gripped in his white-knuckled hands. The fake Spanish label fluttered weakly to the tiled floor, exposing the brutal, glaring reality printed in bold red ink: Not for Human Consumption.
His breathing came in shallow, ragged gasps. The man who moments before had threatened to tear his own family apart over a wealthy matriarch's whim had suddenly shrunk into a hollow shell of denial.
"No... no, this is impossible," Rodrigo stammered, his eyes darting frantically between Daniela and the phone. "My mother... she wouldn't. She’s a Villaseñor. People like us don't—we don't traffic in illegal veterinary chemicals!"
Daniela didn't offer a single word of comfort. Her veins ran cold, but her mind was sharper than it had ever been. She remembered the whispered phone calls in hallways, the locked home office in Teresa's sprawling Zapopan mansion that no servant or family member was ever allowed to enter, and the suspicious wealth that financed a lifestyle far grander than any legitimate family business could sustain.
"People like your mother will do anything to protect their status, Rodrigo," Daniela said, her voice cutting through the kitchen like shattered glass. "Even if it means poisoning your four-month-old son just to keep him quiet and compliant so she can show off a 'perfect' grandchild to her high-society friends."
On the phone line, the chaotic sounds peaked. A thunderous crash echoed through the speaker—the heavy mahogany study door had just been forced open by federal agents.
Teresa’s voice pierced the air, desperate and feral: "You have no right! This is private property! Get away from that safe!"

Then, the investigator's voice returned to the line, clear and grim: "Mrs. Márquez? Are you still there? We have breached the study. You need to hear this."
Rodrigo dropped the can. It hit the floor with a dull, metallic thud, spilling a fine cloud of toxic white powder across the clean tiles. He stumbled backward, collapsing against the kitchen island, his eyes wide with a terrifying realization. The illusion of his mother's untouchable perfection had shattered into a million jagged pieces, and the shrapnel was cutting them both to ribbons.
