Chapter 6 - BREACHING THE GATES"Open up, Mr. Márquez! We know you're inside!" a gruff voice called out from the front porch, accompanied by the distinct sound of a heavy pry bar sliding against the wooden door frame.

Rodrigo positioned himself slightly to the side of the entryway, raising the iron skillet with both hands, his muscles tense. Daniela stood three paces behind him in the hallway shadow, her left hand shielding Mateo’s head against her chest, while her right hand gripped the fire poker with lethal precision.

Crack!

The deadbolt splintered. The front door burst open inward, crashing against the hallway wall.

Two men in black tactical gear stepped quickly into the dim foyer, their weapons raised, scanning the dark living room with infrared laser sights.

"Clear!" the lead operative muttered, lowering his weapon slightly as he stepped toward the kitchen. "The house looks abandoned. Grab the silver cans from the kitchen island and let's move before the state police reroute their patrols."

As the second operative stepped past the doorway, Rodrigo lunged forward with a furious roar, swinging the heavy iron skillet with all his remaining strength.

CLANG!

The skillet caught the operative squarely across the shoulder, sending him crashing hard into the drywalled hallway, his weapon skittering across the floor tiles.

"Ambush!" the lead operative yelled, spinning around and raising his pistol toward Rodrigo.

He never got the chance to pull the trigger.

From the shadows behind Rodrigo, Daniela stepped forward with cold, deadly execution. She didn't aim for a warning shot; she swung the heavy fire poker in a vicious downward arc, catching the gunman directly across his wrist.

The pistol flew from his grasp, clattering into the dark living room.

Before he could recover, Daniela delivered a sharp, decisive kick to his knee joint, buckling his leg and sending him crashing hard to the floor. Rodrigo instantly leaped on top of him, pinning the man's arms to the ground with his full body weight, pressing his forearm against the operative's throat.

"Don't move or I swear to God I'll break your jaw!" Rodrigo shouted, panting heavily.

The second man tried to crawl toward his dropped weapon, but Daniela stepped firmly onto his hand, pressing the sharp tip of the iron poker inches from his eye.

"Stay still," Daniela commanded, her voice terrifyingly calm. "Who sent you? Was it Teresa's cartel associates or someone higher up in the export ring?"

The operative spat blood onto the floor, grinning wickedly through bruised lips. "You fools... you think arresting Teresa and stopping us changes anything? The distribution network spans three continents. You just signed your own death warrants."

Suddenly, the wail of approaching sirens filled the suburban street outside—not just one cruiser, but a full convoy of federal tactical vehicles tearing down the asphalt.
