Chapter 16 - Healing the WoundsThe estate grew quiet once again as the dust settled and the broken glass from the skylight was swiftly cleared away by the maintenance crews.

I walked slowly through the winter garden, the scent of fresh jasmine filling the air. The heavy weight that had anchored my chest for eight long years was finally gone. The conspirators were caged, the Syndicate was shattered, and the truth of Audrey's sacrifice was out in the light where it belonged.

Soft footsteps padded behind me.

I turned to see Lily standing there, holding Leo's hand. She looked up at me, her hazel eyes filled with a quiet curiosity that belonged to someone much older than her years.

"Are the bad men gone forever?" she asked softly.

I crouched down, meeting her gaze, and gently placed my hand on her shoulder. The silver necklace with the twin dolphins glinted softly in the morning light.

"Forever, Lily," I promised, my voice warm and steady. "Nobody will ever threaten this home again."

Leo shifted nervously from foot to foot. "So... what happens to us now?"

I stood up, offering both of them a reassuring smile. "Now? Now you get to stop running. You have a room upstairs, a proper school to attend on Monday, and a backyard that doesn't require sneaking past guards."

Lily’s eyes widened with genuine excitement. "Can I still dance in the garden?"
