Chapter 8 - Crashing the ZenithThe Zenith Tower pierced the stormy night sky like a monolith of glass and steel, its top-floor penthouse glowing with the artificial brilliance of wealth and corruption. Inside, hundred-dollar-plate appetizers were being served to men and women draped in diamonds and tailored silk—the untouchable elite of the city, blissfully unaware that the storm was already inside the building.

The private elevators chimed softly as they reached the penthouse level.

The heavy glass doors slid open.

Marcus stepped out first, his hand resting casually on his sidearm, followed immediately by four heavily armed security operatives in matte-black tactical gear.

The cocktail music scratched to a sudden halt. Conversations died in mid-sentence. Dozens of wealthy socialites, corporate executives, and city officials turned toward the elevator, their expressions shifting from annoyance to sheer, unadulterated terror as they recognized the face of the man stepping out behind my guards.

Me.

Walking on my own two feet.

For the first time in eight years, the Harbor King entered a room standing tall.

I walked at a measured, deliberate pace, my stride steady despite the burning ache in my joints. The crowd parted before me like water before the bow of an icebreaker. Nobody dared to breathe. Nobody dared to speak.

At the far end of the penthouse, standing behind a podium adorned with campaign banners, was Mayor Arthur Vance—Evelyn’s brother, and the hidden puppet master of the Vanguard Syndicate.

His face drained of all color, the glass of champagne slipping from his fingers to shatter against the marble floor.

"C-Caleb?" Mayor Vance stammered, gripping the edges of the podium so hard his knuckles turned white. "You... you're supposed to be—"

"In a wheelchair?" I finished for him, stopping ten feet from the podium. I let my gaze sweep across the room, locking eyes with corrupt judges, crooked corporate executives, and bribed police chiefs. "You all thought I was broken, didn't you? You thought you could butcher my wife, steal my empire, and bury my child in the slums while you sipped champagne and divided up my city."

"This is private property!" one of the corporate executives shouted, his voice cracking with panic. "Security! Get these armed thugs out of here!"

"Try calling security," I said calmly. "They're currently tied up in the basement, courtesy of my tactical teams."

I took two more steps forward, closing the distance until I stood right in front of Mayor Vance. He cowered behind the polished wood like a cornered rat.

"You signed the paperwork, Arthur," I said, my voice echoing off the double-height glass windows as thunder rumbled overhead. "You helped orchestrate the murder of a woman who was simply trying to expose your criminal enterprise."

"I had nothing to do with it!" Arthur shrieked, backing away until his spine hit the glass wall. "It was the Syndicate! They forced me!"

"And now," I said, raising my hand and signaling toward the elevators, "the bill is due."
