Chapter 10 - THE FINAL SALUTEMorning broke with a brilliant, golden sunrise that seemed to wash the entire coastline in a fresh, hopeful light.


On the private lawn overlooking the crashing waves of the Atlantic, Admiral Jonathan Vance stood tall and immaculate in his full dress naval uniform, the gold braiding on his cuffs gleaming in the morning sun.
In his arms, cradled securely against his chest, was little Jonathan, wrapped in a soft white blanket.
Rachel walked out onto the lawn, wearing a simple, elegant summer dress, laughing as her son reached out tiny hands toward his grandfather's polished brass buttons.
Jonathan looked down at his grandson, a rare, gentle smile softening the rugged lines of his face. He gently brought his right hand up to his cap in a crisp, formal, military salute.
