Chapter 4 - THE QUEEN'S RECLAMATIONAcross town, inside the tranquil, secure sanctuary of a private medical penthouse overlooking Central Park, Rachel Vance-Sterling rested against a pile of plush silk pillows. A private team of top-tier obstetricians monitored her vitals, confirming that despite the trauma, her unborn baby was completely safe and healthy.

The door clicked open, and Admiral Jonathan Vance walked in softly, carrying a steaming cup of chamomile tea. His uniform jacket was hung over his arm, his expression infinitely tender as he approached his daughter.
"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" Jonathan asked softly, placing the cup on the bedside table and sitting on the edge of the mattress.
Rachel managed a faint, bittersweet smile, resting her hand over her belly. "I’m safe, Dad. That’s all that matters. But... I still can't believe it's real. Twenty-four hours ago, I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare with no way out."
"You were never trapped, Rachel," Jonathan said firmly, taking her hand in his warm, sturdy grip. "You chose to give that pathetic boy a chance because you have a good, forgiving heart. But you forgot something very important."
"What's that?"
"You are a Vance," Jonathan said, his eyes flashing with quiet pride. "We don't cower. We don't beg. When someone tries to break you, we dismantle their entire world brick by brick."
Rachel looked down at her wedding ring—the heavy, diamond-encrusted band symbolizing her marriage to Ethan. With a steady, deliberate motion, she slid the ring off her finger and dropped it into the glass of water beside the bed, watching the diamond sink to the bottom.
"I filed the uncontested divorce papers this morning," Rachel said steadily, her voice gaining strength. "My legal team is demanding full custody, complete asset forfeiture based on emotional abuse and endangerment, and a permanent restraining order."
"Good," Jonathan nodded approvingly. "And don't worry about their legal maneuvers. Arthur and Julian Sterling are currently too busy fighting federal indictments to fund Ethan's defense. By the time this is over, Ethan won't even be able to afford a public defender."
Just then, Rachel's phone buzzed on the nightstand. It was an unknown encrypted number. She looked at her father questioningly.
"Answer it," Jonathan instructed calmly. "Let's hear what the rats have to say."
Rachel swiped the screen and put it on speaker.
"Rachel? Rachel, please!" Ethan’s desperate, panicked voice shrieked through the speaker. "Please, you gotta help me! They're treating me like an animal in here! Dad and Julian are screaming at me, my lawyers won't return my calls, and the guards—Rachel, please, call your dad off! Drop the charges! I'm sorry! I swear I'm sorry!"
Rachel stared at the phone screen, her heart surprisingly calm. The fear that had gripped her for three long years was entirely gone, replaced by a profound, liberating clarity.
"Ethan," Rachel spoke, her voice crystal clear and devoid of emotion. "When you shoved me last night and told me my father couldn't save me... you made the biggest mistake of your life."
"Rachel, wait—!"
"Enjoy your stay," Rachel said softly, and tapped the end-call button.

She looked up at her father, a genuine smile finally touching her lips. "What's next, Dad?"
Jonathan smiled back, standing up and straightening his uniform. "Next, my girl, we prepare for the trial of the century. And then, we welcome my grandchild into a world where no one will ever dare touch them again."
