Chapter 2 - THE COLLAPSE OF THE STERLING DYNASTYThe sun rose over New York City, casting a harsh morning light on the gleaming glass skyscraper of Sterling Global Headquarters. Inside the executive boardroom, however, total chaos reigned.

Arthur Sterling, CEO and founder, paced frantically behind his mahogany desk, his phone pressed tightly to his ear. "What do you mean, frozen?!" he roared into the receiver. "By whose authority are all corporate accounts locked? Check the court order, you incompetent fool!"

The voice on the other end trembled. "Sir... it’s not from a civilian court. It’s a federal freeze order originating directly from the Department of Defense. Sir, federal agents have just seized our shipping ports in New Jersey and Long Beach. They’ve flagged every single cargo vessel under our flag for national security audits."

Arthur dropped his phone onto the desk, his face turning an alarming shade of purple. National security audits? The Sterling Shipping empire moved billions of dollars in global freight every week. A federal shutdown meant bankruptcy within forty-eight hours.

Suddenly, the boardroom doors slammed open. Arthur’s eldest son, Julian, rushed in, looking pale and disheveled. "Dad! We’re finished! Look at the stock market!" Julian thrust his tablet forward.

Sterling Global stock was in a catastrophic freefall—down 82% in pre-market trading, wiping out billions of dollars in market capitalization. Major international partners were mass-canceling contracts via automated emergency emails, citing sudden breach of ethical conduct clauses.

"Who did this?" Arthur snarled, his hands shaking as he gripped the edge of his desk. "Which competitor orchestrated this hostile attack? Dig up dirt on them! Destroy them!"

"It wasn't a competitor, Dad," a chilling, deep voice echoed from the doorway.

Arthur and Julian whipped around. Standing in the entrance was Admiral Jonathan Vance, flanked by two federal prosecutors and a detachment of armed federal marshals. Jonathan looked immaculate, his silver hair neatly combed, his uniform devoid of a single speck of dust.

"Vance?" Arthur narrowed his eyes, stepping forward with a mixture of confusion and lingering arrogance. "What the hell are you doing in my building? Is this about your daughter? Look, marriages have rough patches. If Rachel wants a divorce, we can settle it quietly with lawyers. There's no need to make a fool of yourself over a family squabble."

Jonathan let out a dry, humorless laugh that sent a shiver down Arthur's spine.

"A family squabble?" Jonathan repeated, stepping into the boardroom and tossing a thick manila folder onto Arthur's pristine desk. "Is that what you call corporate tax evasion, illegal arms smuggling through your secondary cargo lines, and federal bribery totaling over forty million dollars?"

Arthur’s face drained of all color. He stared at the folder, his throat suddenly too dry to swallow. "Where... where did you get that?"

"When you marry into the Vance family, Arthur, you don't just sign a marriage certificate; you invite an apex predator into your house," Jonathan replied calmly, pulling out a chair and sitting down uninvited. "For three years, my daughter endured your degenerate son's mental abuse, financial control, and physical intimidation. She kept quiet because she believed in family. But last night, Ethan crossed a line he can never walk back."

"You... you used military intelligence resources for a personal domestic dispute?!" Julian shouted, stepping forward angrily. "That's an abuse of power! We’ll sue you in every federal court in the country! We’ll expose you!"

Jonathan didn't even flinch. He slowly turned his obsidian gaze onto Julian. "Try it, boy. Let's see how long a federal judge listens to you when the Department of Justice unseals indictments for treason, racketeering, and domestic terrorism."

Jonathan stood up, buttoning his jacket. "Consider this your eviction notice from the upper echelons of society. By noon today, your assets will be seized, your board members will resign, and your family name will be permanently erased from the commercial registry. Enjoy your morning, gentlemen."
