CHAPTER 4 – The Truth No One Expected
Amelia looked at Marina, then at Victoria.
“I came here tonight without warning because I wanted to see how guests were truly treated when no one important was watching.”
Her voice was quiet, but every word cut through the room.
“And now I’ve seen enough.”
Victoria started shaking.
“Ms. Harrington, please… it was a misunderstanding…”
Amelia raised one hand.
“No. A misunderstanding is forgetting a reservation. What you did was discrimination.”
The wealthy guests who had laughed moments earlier lowered their eyes.
No one dared speak.
Edward opened the leather folder and placed several documents on the table.
Amelia looked directly at Victoria.
“You threatened an employee’s pay. You humiliated a customer. And you made this restaurant unsafe for people you decided were beneath you.”
Victoria’s lips trembled.
“Please… I’ve worked here for years…”
Amelia nodded slowly.
“Yes. And that means you’ve had years to learn respect.”
Then she turned to Marina.
“Marina, from tonight on, you are no longer a waitress.”
Marina froze.
Amelia smiled gently.
“You are the new assistant manager.”
Victoria gasped.
