Chapter 2 – The Letter That Changed Everything

For the first time in years, Victoria froze.
She knew that handwriting.
Impossible.
That envelope had disappeared decades ago.
"Where... did you get that?" she whispered.
The old man looked directly into her eyes.
"I never lost it."
"I promised someone I'd deliver it by hand."
Silence spread across the lobby.
Employees who had been laughing only moments earlier now exchanged nervous glances.
Victoria quickly recovered.
"It's fake."
"It has to be."
She reached for the envelope.
The old man calmly stepped back.
"This letter isn't for you."
"It's for Evelyn."
Victoria's expression darkened.
"No one sees the CEO without authorization."
She nodded to security.
"Take it."
Just as the guards moved again...
the private executive elevator opened.
No announcement.
No assistants.
Only Evelyn Carter herself.
The billionaire CEO almost never entered through the public lobby.
Today she did.
The entire building fell silent.
She was about to walk past...
...until she noticed the old man's face.
Her footsteps stopped.
She stared at him.
Then at the yellow envelope.
Color drained from her face.
Her hands began shaking.
"No..."
she whispered.
"It can't be..."
The old man smiled sadly.
"I know."
"You thought everyone from that night was gone."
Tears filled Evelyn's eyes.
The envelope slipped from his hands.
Before anyone else could move...
the CEO herself rushed across the marble floor...
...picked it up with trembling fingers...
...and hugged it against her chest as though it were the most valuable thing she had ever owned.
Every executive in the lobby stood frozen.
Victoria's confidence vanished.
She had just humiliated the only man the CEO seemed desperate to see.
Then Evelyn looked directly at the old man and asked the question that made everyone's blood run cold.
