CHAPTER 2 – The Billionaire's Impossible Offer

The next morning, Emily arrived at work expecting another ordinary day.

Instead...

Three black luxury cars stopped outside the grocery store.

Everyone rushed to the windows.

Men in expensive suits stepped out first.

Then the elderly woman from yesterday emerged—except she no longer looked homeless.

She wore an elegant cream-colored coat, diamond earrings, and walked confidently with a polished cane.

The store manager nearly dropped his clipboard.

"What... what is happening?"

The woman smiled.

"My name is Eleanor Whitmore."

The room fell silent.

The name was legendary.

Founder of one of America's largest supermarket empires.

Worth billions.

The employees who had mocked her the day before suddenly turned white.

Even the rude cashier couldn't speak.

Eleanor walked directly toward Emily.

"You gave away your last twenty dollars."

Emily looked embarrassed.

"It wasn't a big deal."

Eleanor smiled sadly.

"To someone with almost nothing... it's the biggest deal of all."

Then she handed Emily a small envelope.

Inside was not money.

It was an invitation.

'Board Meeting – Whitmore Holdings. Attendance Required.'

Emily stared in disbelief.

"There must be some mistake."

"There isn't."

Eleanor slowly revealed the truth.

"For six months, I've been visiting my own stores disguised as a poor customer."

"I wasn't testing employees."

"I was searching for one honest soul."

Everyone in the store lowered their heads.

Some cried.

Others wished they could erase what they had said.

Then Eleanor dropped a second bombshell.

"My doctors recently told me I don't have much time."

"My own children only care about my fortune."

"But yesterday..."

She looked at Emily with tears in her eyes.

"I found someone who values people more than money."

Emily shook her head.

"I can't accept billions."

Eleanor smiled.

"You misunderstand."

"I'm not offering you my fortune."

"I'm offering you something much harder..."

"The responsibility to protect thousands of employees from the greedy people waiting to destroy everything I built."

Before Emily could answer...

The boardroom doors burst open.

Eleanor's three children stormed inside.

"If that waitress gets one share of this company..."

"We'll destroy her."

Emily thought helping a stranger had ended yesterday.

She had no idea...

The real battle was only beginning.
