CHAPTER 3 – The Trap Behind the Fortune

Emily barely had time to breathe before Eleanor’s children surrounded her like wolves.

“You think you can walk in here and steal our mother’s empire?” Victor Whitmore hissed.

Emily stepped back. “I don’t want anything from her.”

“Liar,” his sister Cassandra snapped. “Girls like you always want something.”

Then the youngest son, Nathan, threw a folder onto the table.

Inside were fake documents.

Forged signatures.

Bank transfers.

Photos of Emily edited beside strange men she had never met.

The board members gasped.

Victor smiled coldly.

“This woman is a fraud. She planned this from the beginning.”

Emily’s face went pale.

“That’s not true.”

But security was already walking toward her.

Eleanor tried to stand, but Cassandra grabbed her arm.

“Mother, sit down. You’re confused.”

That was when Emily realized the truth.

They weren’t just trying to destroy her.

They were trying to silence Eleanor too.

As security reached for Emily, the boardroom doors opened again.

An old man in a dark suit stepped inside.

Everyone froze.

It was Judge Thomas Reed, Eleanor’s longtime attorney.

He placed a small silver recorder on the table.

“I believe the board should hear this first.”

Victor’s smile disappeared.

The recording played.

His own voice filled the room.

“Forge the papers. Blame the grocery girl. Once Mother signs the transfer, we take everything.”

Cassandra’s voice followed.

“And if the old woman refuses?”

Nathan laughed.

“Then we make sure she never speaks again.”

The room went dead silent.

Emily covered her mouth.

Eleanor closed her eyes, tears slipping down her cheeks.

“My own children...” she whispered.

Victor lunged for the recorder, but police officers rushed in behind the attorney.

“You set us up!” Cassandra screamed.

Eleanor opened her purse and pulled out the same twenty-dollar bill Emily had given her.

“No,” she said softly. “You set yourselves up.”

Then she turned to Emily.

“This company doesn’t need my bloodline.”

She looked at the board.

“It needs a heart.”

By sunset, the Whitmore children were arrested.

Emily thought the nightmare was over.

But that night, Eleanor handed her one final envelope.

Inside was a birth certificate.

Emily read the name...

And dropped to her knees.

May you like

Because Eleanor Whitmore was not just the woman she helped.

She was the grandmother Emily’s father had spent his whole life searching for.
