CHAPTER 5 – The Kidnapping That Changed Everything

The emergency alert echoed through every television in Whitmore Holdings.

"Victor Whitmore remains at large. Authorities warn he may attempt to contact or harm members of the Whitmore family."

The boardroom fell into chaos.

Security immediately surrounded Eleanor and Emily.

"We're moving you both to a secure location," one officer ordered.

Emily nodded, but something didn't feel right.

Victor wasn't the type to attack head-on.

He always planned three moves ahead.

That night, Eleanor was taken to a heavily guarded estate outside the city.

Armed security patrolled every entrance.

More than thirty cameras watched every corner.

It looked impossible to break in.

At exactly 2:17 a.m...

Every security monitor suddenly went black.

For seven terrifying seconds.

Then the backup system activated.

Everything looked normal.

Or so they thought.

The next morning...

Eleanor was gone.

Her bedroom was empty.

The guards outside her door had never seen anyone enter or leave.

Only one thing remained on her pillow.

A black envelope addressed to Emily.

Inside was a single photograph.

Eleanor sat tied to a chair inside what looked like an abandoned factory.

Across the photo, someone had written in red ink:

"Come alone... or you bury your grandmother."

The police immediately traced the image.

Nothing.

No fingerprints.

No digital location.

Victor had planned everything.

Detective Ryan Brooks looked at Emily.

"This is exactly what he wants."

"If you go alone, you'll never come back."

Emily lowered her head.

Then she noticed something everyone else had missed.

Around Eleanor's wrist was the old silver bracelet she had worn for decades.

One tiny charm was missing.

Emily remembered Eleanor's words from days earlier.

"Your grandfather designed this bracelet. Every charm tells part of our family's story."

The missing charm wasn't random.

It was a tiny compass.

Emily grabbed the photograph.

"The compass..."

She zoomed in on the reflection in a nearby broken window.

There...

Barely visible...

Was the faded logo of an abandoned shipping company.

Harbor 19.

Victor hadn't realized the reflection was behind Eleanor.

Within minutes, a tactical SWAT team surrounded the warehouse.

Emily begged to go with them.

Against every protocol...

Detective Brooks finally agreed.

The team burst through the doors.

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"

Gunfire exploded through the building.

Victor laughed from the shadows.

"You think this is about money?"

"You still don't understand."

He pressed a button on a remote control.

A loud metallic click echoed through the warehouse.

Everyone froze.

Under Eleanor's chair...

A digital timer suddenly lit up.

09:59... 09:58... 09:57...

Emily's blood turned to ice.

This had never been a kidnapping.

May you like

It had been a trap.

And the countdown had already begun...
