CHAPTER 3 – The Guest Who Wasn’t a Guest

The billionaire’s voice dropped to a whisper.

“What do you mean my wife is missing?”

The security guard on the phone spoke so fast no one else could understand him.

But everyone saw the billionaire’s face change.

The powerful man who had terrified the whole hotel suddenly looked like a husband about to lose everything.

The woman in the wet gray suit stepped forward.

“Who was the witness?”

The billionaire pointed across the pool.

A quiet man in a navy jacket stood near the exit.

He had been watching the entire rescue without saying a word.

The moment everyone turned toward him…

He ran.

Security chased him through the lobby, but the man was fast. He knocked over a waiter, pushed through a glass door, and disappeared into the parking garage.

Then the older boy suddenly screamed.

“Dad! That’s him!”

The billionaire froze.

“That’s who?”

The boy’s lips trembled.

“The man who told the coach to hurt us.”

The hotel went silent again.

The swimming coach began shaking violently.

“No… no, I didn’t know they were your sons. I swear! He paid me!”

The billionaire grabbed him by the collar.

“Who paid you?”

The coach cried out one name.

“Victor Hale.”

The billionaire stepped back like he had been stabbed.

Victor Hale wasn’t a stranger.

He was his wife’s brother.

And three hours earlier…

Victor had promised to bring his wife safely to the hotel.

The woman in the gray suit suddenly remembered something.

When she had jumped into the pool, she had seen a black bracelet on the mystery man’s wrist.

A bracelet with a silver snake.

She had seen that same symbol before.

On a letter left beside her mother’s hospital bed twenty years ago.

Before she could speak, the billionaire’s younger son pulled something from his pocket.

A tiny memory card.

“Mom gave this to me,” he whispered. “She said if anything bad happened… give it to the lady who saved us.”

The woman’s blood ran cold.

“How did your mother know me?”

The billionaire stared at her.

Then the hotel lights flickered.

The giant screen above the pool turned black.

SHE WAS NEVER JUST A STRANGER.
