CHAPTER 3 — The Billionaire's Final Insurance Policy

The helicopter landed on the private helipad nearly forty minutes later.

By then, emergency crews, police officers, and Richard Ashford's personal security team had already surrounded the area.

Sophia stumbled out of the helicopter, her wedding dress stained with tears, clutching the bouquet as though she were too devastated to let it go.

"I tried to save him!" she cried. "He slipped... he just slipped!"

Several guests rushed over to comfort her.

Others stood in stunned silence.

Richard Ashford—one of the wealthiest men in the country—had apparently fallen into the ocean only hours after saying, "I do."

The tragedy dominated every television station within the hour.

But while reporters gathered outside the villa, something far more important was happening beneath Richard's corporate headquarters.

Five floors underground.

A steel security door slid open.

Inside a dimly lit command center, more than twenty monitors displayed live satellite feeds, financial records, and encrypted communications.

A gray-haired man in a navy suit stepped inside.

His name was Daniel Cross.

For thirty-two years, he had served as Richard's chief of security.

No one outside Richard's inner circle even knew he existed.

Daniel stared at the flashing red alert on the largest monitor.

CODE BLACK ACTIVATED.

He closed his eyes for a brief moment.

"So... you were right," he whispered.

One of the analysts looked up.

"Sir?"

Daniel pressed a fingerprint against a secure console.

A video began to play.

Richard appeared on the screen wearing the same suit he had worn at the wedding rehearsal.

"If you're watching this," Richard said calmly, "there's a good chance I'm already dead."

Everyone in the room fell silent.

"I never wanted to believe someone I loved could betray me again."

He paused.

"But experience has taught me that fortunes attract dangerous people."

Richard looked directly into the camera.

"I've spent the last six months preparing for every possible outcome."

The screen changed to dozens of documents.

Photographs.

Bank transfers.

Phone records.

Private surveillance footage.

Daniel's expression hardened.

Richard continued.

"Sophia believes she knows everything about me."

A faint smile crossed his face.

"She doesn't."

Another image appeared.

Sophia meeting secretly with a man in a black SUV.

Then another.

An envelope filled with cash changing hands.

Another.

Sophia researching inheritance laws.

Then one final recording.

She was speaking on the phone.

"I only need him alive until the wedding," she said with a cold laugh.

"After that... everything belongs to me."

The room became completely silent.

Daniel slowly turned toward his team.

"Lock every account."

Within seconds keyboards clattered across the room.

"Freeze every property transfer."

"Done."

"Cancel every digital authorization."

"Done."

"Activate Protocol Seven."

One analyst looked confused.

"Sir... that's irreversible."

Daniel didn't hesitate.

"Richard created it for exactly this situation."

Across the country, millions of dollars instantly became inaccessible.

Corporate voting rights changed.

Trust funds locked automatically.

Every legal document naming Sophia as beneficiary disappeared from the active registry.

She had no idea.

She still believed she had inherited an empire.

In reality...

She no longer owned a single dollar.
