Chapter 13 - Shadows of Betrayal

Simone transformed from a loving woman into a ruthless warlord in a split second.
As Adrienne’s bodyguards dragged their wounded Don into a hidden vault beneath the Venetian palace, Simone grabbed a tactical assault rifle from a fallen guard. She marched through the smoke-filled ballroom, firing with ruthless precision, clearing the room of assassins single-handedly.
When the dust settled, one assassin remained alive, pinned under her boot.
"Who sent you?!" Simone demanded, pressing the hot barrel of her rifle into his neck.
The assassin spat blood and laughed maniacally. "Look to your left, Commissioner. The call came from inside your house!"
Simone slowly turned her head. Standing near the rear exit, holding a encrypted satellite phone, was Marco—Adrienne’s most trusted lieutenant for over a decade.
"Marco?" Simone whispered, her voice dropping into icy fury.
Marco’s face paled. He lowered his gun. "I had no choice, Simone! They have my wife and daughter! They forced me to leak your coordinates!"

"Who has them?!" Simone roared.
Marco trembled, his voice shaking with absolute terror. "The ghost... Julian Carter. Your father isn't dead, Simone. He faked his death eight years ago. And he wants his ledger back."
