The grand staircase of the Whitmore estate had witnessed generations of wealth, power, and carefully arranged marriages. But on that cold afternoon, it became the stage for something no one would ever forget.
Emily Carter stood at the bottom of the marble steps in a simple navy dress, clutching the bouquet that had already begun to wilt in her trembling hands. She wasn't wearing diamonds. She wasn't wearing designer heels. She wasn't even smiling.
Across from her stood Ethan Whitmore—the heir to one of the wealthiest families in New York.
He looked nervous.
His mother looked furious.
"You expect this girl to become part of our family?" Victoria Whitmore spat, her icy voice echoing through the mansion. "She has no money. No status. No name. She belongs nowhere near my son."
The room fell silent.
Emily lowered her eyes. She had heard those words her entire life.

Worthless.

She thought Ethan would defend her.

"No matter what happens... don't let them separate us."

"I didn't marry your family's money."
Victoria laughed.
"No... you married it because you couldn't earn it yourself."
Several relatives burst into laughter.
Someone even applauded.
Emily's face burned with humiliation.

An elderly woman sitting silently near the window slowly stood up.

"Victoria... you've forgotten our family rule."
