CHAPTER 7 – “The Man They Tried to Erase Walked Through the Door”

The mansion fell into complete silence.

Every second felt like an hour.

Emily couldn't stop staring at the front entrance.

Her father...

The man she'd mourned her entire life...

Was alive.

Richard suddenly shouted at his security team.

"Lock every entrance!"

"No one gets inside!"

Within seconds, armed guards rushed through the estate, sealing every door and window.

Ethan stepped in front of Emily.

"If my father tries anything... he'll have to go through me first."

Richard laughed.

"You still think you're the hero?"

"You've been nothing more than my puppet."

Ethan froze.

"What do you mean?"

Richard pulled a small black folder from his coat.

"I chose every school you attended."

"Every company you managed."

"Even your marriage."

Emily's heart skipped.

Richard turned toward her.

"I approved you the moment I learned who you really were."

Emily stared in disbelief.

"You... wanted Ethan to marry me?"

Richard smiled.

"Of course."

"You can't steal an inheritance..."

"...if you marry the heir."

The room exploded with gasps.

Ethan looked physically sick.

"My entire marriage..."

"...was your plan?"

Richard nodded without shame.

"If Emily became your wife..."

"Everything Jonathan owned would eventually belong to my bloodline again."

Emily slowly removed her wedding ring.

This time...

She didn't place it in Ethan's hand.

She dropped it onto the marble floor.

"I was never your prize."

The ring echoed through the silent mansion.

Before anyone could speak—

The lights suddenly went out.

Darkness swallowed the entire estate.

Women screamed.

Someone dropped a glass.

The emergency generators failed.

Only the sound of footsteps echoed through the hallway.

Slow...

Heavy...

Dragging slightly across the floor.

One...

Two...

Three...

The massive front doors creaked open by themselves.

A single beam of moonlight illuminated the entrance.

A thin man stood there.

His beard was gray.

His clothes were worn.

His face carried the scars of unimaginable suffering.

But his eyes...

Emily recognized them instantly.

Without thinking, she whispered,

"...Dad?"

The man looked at her.

Tears filled his eyes.

"My little butterfly..."

Emily collapsed into tears.

Only one person had ever called her that.

She ran across the hall and threw herself into his arms.

Jonathan held his daughter for the first time in twenty-six years.

The entire Whitmore family watched in stunned silence.

Even Eleanor couldn't stop crying.

Richard slowly stepped backward.

"No..."

"This isn't possible."

Jonathan gently released Emily.

Then he looked directly at his older brother.

His warm expression disappeared.

"You should have finished the job twenty-six years ago."

Richard's face turned white.

Jonathan reached into the inside pocket of his worn jacket.

Everyone expected a weapon.

Instead...

He pulled out a small, rusted key.

He handed it to Emily.

"This key opens a locker at Grand Central Station."

Emily frowned.

"What's inside?"

Jonathan's voice trembled.

"The only evidence I could hide before they captured me."

Richard suddenly screamed,

"STOP HER!"

The guards rushed toward Emily—

But Jonathan stepped in front of his daughter.

For the first time in twenty-six years...

He wasn't running anymore.

He smiled coldly at Richard.

"You've spent twenty-six years hiding one crime."

He pointed at the old key in Emily's hand.

"But what's inside that locker..."

"...will prove you didn't just steal my company."

A long silence filled the room.

Then Jonathan delivered the sentence that made Richard collapse into a chair.

May you like

"It proves..."

"...you murdered our father."
