CHAPTER 4 – “The DNA Test That Changed Everything”

Emily’s hands shook so violently that the birth certificate slipped from her fingers.

It fluttered onto the driveway.

No one moved.

No one breathed.

Ethan stared at the paper as if the world had suddenly stopped turning.

"Jonathan... Whitmore?"

His voice cracked.

"My uncle Jonathan?"

Eleanor closed her eyes.

"For twenty-six years... I prayed this day would never come."

Emily looked up, confused.

"I don't understand."

Eleanor took a deep breath.

"Because you were never supposed to disappear."

The words hit like thunder.

Victoria, who had barely reached the front gate under the guards’ escort, suddenly screamed,

"She's lying! That girl is an impostor!"

Eleanor ignored her.

Instead, she reached into her purse and revealed an old photograph.

It showed two laughing children beside a lake.

One was a young Ethan.

The other...

Was a little girl wearing a silver butterfly necklace.

Emily instinctively touched her neck.

The necklace...

She had worn it since childhood.

The room erupted.

"No..."

Ethan whispered.

"That's impossible."

Eleanor nodded slowly.

"The day Jonathan's car plunged into the river, everyone believed his wife and daughter had drowned."

Emily's heart pounded.

"I was... that little girl?"

Eleanor's eyes filled with tears.

"No bodies were ever found."

Emily felt the ground spinning beneath her feet.

"If Jonathan was my father..."

She swallowed hard.

"...then who raised me?"

Eleanor looked away.

"Someone who was paid to make sure you never came back."

Victoria's face turned ghostly white.

Emily noticed.

"You knew."

Victoria stepped backward.

"I... I..."

"You knew I was alive."

Before Victoria could answer, a black luxury SUV screeched into the estate.

Three men in dark suits stepped out.

One of them held a silver briefcase.

Another carried a portable DNA testing kit.

The oldest man walked directly toward Eleanor.

"Mrs. Whitmore."

He bowed respectfully.

"The court has approved the emergency inheritance verification."

He turned to Emily.

"We only need one DNA sample."

The mansion became eerily silent.

Victoria suddenly lunged toward the briefcase.

"No!"

She shoved one of the investigators to the ground.

"That test cannot happen!"

Security immediately restrained her.

Everyone stared in disbelief.

Only a guilty person would fear the truth this much.

Emily slowly reached for the cotton swab.

Her hand trembled.

"If this proves Jonathan was my father..."

She looked directly into Victoria's terrified eyes.

"...then someone stole my entire life."

Thirty minutes later...

The DNA machine beeped.

The lead investigator stared at the screen.

His face lost all color.

Eleanor whispered,

"What does it say?"

He looked up slowly.

His voice echoed through the silent estate.

"The DNA confirms..."

He paused.

"...Emily Carter is not only Jonathan Whitmore's daughter...

She is the sole legal heir to Jonathan's inheritance... and the controlling owner of fifty-one percent of the Whitmore Group."

Every member of the Whitmore family froze.

But before anyone could react...

The investigator frowned at another line appearing on the screen.

"There... there's something else."

He looked directly at Victoria.

"This report also proves..."

"...someone in this family deliberately falsified Jonathan Whitmore's death records twenty-six years ago."

Victoria collapsed to her knees.

Because she knew...

May you like

The next name on that report...

Would expose the real mastermind behind the Whitmore family's darkest secret.
