CHAPTER 3 – “The Envelope That Destroyed Her”

The room went silent as Eleanor held up the second envelope.

Victoria’s lips trembled.

“Mother… whatever you think you found, it’s a misunderstanding.”

Eleanor smiled coldly.

“A misunderstanding doesn’t steal forty million dollars.”

Gasps exploded through the mansion.

Ethan turned to his mother, stunned.

“Mom… tell me she’s lying.”

But Victoria couldn’t speak.

Eleanor opened the envelope and scattered bank statements across the marble floor.

Offshore accounts.

Fake charities.

Forged signatures.

And Emily’s name on one document.

Emily froze.

“What… what is this?”

Eleanor’s voice sharpened.

“Victoria planned to frame you after the wedding. She wanted the family to believe you married Ethan for money, stole from us, then disappeared.”

Emily’s knees nearly gave out.

Ethan rushed to her side, but she stepped away from him.

Because now she understood.

His silence hadn’t protected her.

It had nearly destroyed her.

Victoria suddenly screamed, “Yes! I did it! Because girls like her ruin families like ours!”

Eleanor lifted her cane and pointed toward the door.

“No, Victoria. Women like you do.”

Then two security guards entered.

Victoria’s face collapsed.

“You can’t throw me out. I am this family!”

Eleanor leaned closer and whispered,

“Not anymore.”

As Victoria was dragged from the mansion, Emily turned to leave too.

Ethan grabbed her hand.

“Emily, please… I’m sorry.”

She looked at him through tears.

“You let them humiliate me.”

Then she removed her wedding ring and placed it in his palm.

The entire family watched as the poor girl they had mocked walked out of the Whitmore estate with nothing…

Except Eleanor following behind her.

Outside, Eleanor handed Emily a final sealed letter.

“Your real story doesn’t begin with Ethan,” she said.

Emily opened it.

Her blood ran cold.

Inside was a birth certificate.

Her father’s name was written clearly:

Jonathan Whitmore.

Emily wasn’t marrying into the family.

She was already part of it.
