CHAPTER 8 – “The Locker Opened… And the Truth Buried Forever Came Alive”

Richard's face turned ghostly white.

"Murder?"

His voice cracked for the first time.

"Jonathan... you're insane."

Jonathan didn't answer.

He simply looked at Emily.

"Take the key."

"And whatever happens... don't let anyone else touch that locker."

Emily wrapped her fingers tightly around the rusted key.

She could feel decades of secrets hidden inside that tiny piece of metal.

Richard suddenly snapped.

"Take the key from her!"

Half a dozen security guards rushed forward.

But before they reached Emily—

Ethan stepped between them.

"No."

His voice echoed through the mansion.

"I won't let you hurt her again."

Richard stared at his own son.

"Move."

"I said move!"

Ethan shook his head.

"You manipulated my entire life."

"You used me to steal from the woman I love."

"I'm done being your puppet."

Richard's expression turned cold.

"You've chosen the wrong side."

Suddenly—

A loud gunshot shattered the silence.

BANG!

Everyone screamed.

Jonathan staggered backward.

A dark stain spread across his white shirt.

Emily's eyes widened.

"DAD!!"

She caught him before he hit the floor.

Blood soaked her hands.

Jonathan struggled to breathe.

Richard slowly lowered the smoking pistol.

"If Jonathan dies..."

"...the truth dies with him."

Victoria covered her mouth in horror.

Even she hadn't expected Richard to pull the trigger.

Police sirens suddenly echoed outside the estate.

Blue and red lights flashed through the mansion windows.

Someone had already called the authorities.

Richard looked toward the entrance.

"Damn it..."

He turned back to Emily.

"Give me the key."

Emily shook her head through tears.

"Never."

Jonathan weakly grabbed her wrist.

His breathing was growing slower.

"Emily..."

"Listen carefully."

"The locker..."

"...doesn't contain money."

"It doesn't contain company records."

Emily leaned closer.

"What is it?"

Jonathan smiled painfully.

"It contains..."

"...your mother's diary."

Emily froze.

"My mother?"

Jonathan nodded.

"Everything..."

"Every name."

"Every betrayal."

"Every crime."

"She wrote it all."

Richard's eyes filled with panic.

"No..."

Jonathan continued,

"She knew they planned to kill us."

"So she left one final gift."

He placed his trembling hand over Emily's.

"The diary also contains..."

"...the original DNA records."

Richard's breathing became frantic.

"If that diary is opened..."

Jonathan smiled.

"The Whitmore Empire ends today."

Suddenly—

The front doors burst open.

More than twenty FBI agents stormed into the mansion.

"Federal agents!"

"Nobody move!"

Richard slowly smiled.

To everyone's surprise...

He wasn't afraid anymore.

Instead...

He began laughing.

A deep...

Terrifying laugh.

"You think you've won?"

He looked directly at Emily.

"Go to the locker."

"Open the diary."

"You'll discover something your father never knew."

Emily stared at him.

"What are you talking about?"

Richard's smile grew wider.

"The woman you call your mother..."

"...wasn't your biological mother."

The mansion fell silent once again.

Jonathan's eyes flew open in shock.

"No..."

Richard nodded.

"Oh yes."

He pointed at Emily.

"The biggest lie wasn't who tried to kill you."

"It was..."

May you like

"...who you really are."
