CHAPTER 2 – "The Secret Hidden for Thirty Years"

o one dared breathe.
Victoria's confidence disappeared instantly.
The elderly woman walked slowly toward Emily, using an old wooden cane polished by decades of use.
Her name was Eleanor Whitmore.
Very few people knew that although Victoria controlled the family's businesses...
Every company...
Every mansion...
Every dollar...
Still legally belonged to Eleanor.
She stopped directly in front of Emily.
Instead of judging her...
She gently wiped away the tear rolling down the young woman's cheek.
Then she smiled.
"When I married into this family," Eleanor said softly, "they humiliated me exactly the same way."
Victoria's eyes widened.
"Mother... this isn't the time—"
"Silence."
One word.
Victoria immediately obeyed.
Eleanor turned back toward everyone gathered in the hall.
"For thirty years, I kept a secret from this family."
The room became deathly quiet.
"I asked a private investigator to follow every woman Ethan ever dated."
Gasps spread across the room.
"They all left when they discovered the Whitmore fortune."
Ethan stared at his grandmother in disbelief.
"You investigated Emily too?"
"I did."
Emily's heart nearly stopped.
Had she failed?
Eleanor reached into her handbag and removed a thick envelope.
Inside were hundreds of photographs.
Emily working double shifts.
Emily secretly donating blood for hospital bills.
Emily refusing expensive gifts from Ethan.
Emily paying for an elderly stranger's groceries.
And one photograph no one expected.
Emily sitting alone in a hospital room...
Holding the hand of a woman she had never met...
Simply because the patient had no family.
Eleanor looked around the room.
"This young woman never knew anyone was watching."
She placed the envelope into Emily's hands.
"That's why she's the first person worthy of carrying the Whitmore name."
Victoria's face turned white.
But Eleanor wasn't finished.
She slowly faced her daughter-in-law one last time.
"I've also been investigating someone else."
Victoria's smile vanished.
"The financial records you thought no one would ever see..."
Eleanor raised another envelope.
"...arrived this morning."
Victoria stumbled backward.
Her hands began shaking uncontrollably.
Because she already knew...
If Eleanor opened that envelope...
May you like
The greatest scandal in Whitmore family history...
Would finally be exposed.
