Chapter 1: The Girl Who Wasn't Supposed to Cry

The grand ballroom glittered beneath crystal chandeliers, where millionaires laughed over expensive wine as if the world had never known suffering.
Emily Carter moved silently between the tables, balancing a silver tray with trembling hands. At twenty-three, she had mastered one thing—remaining invisible.
The guests never looked at her face.
To them, she was just another waitress.
But tonight was different.
As she approached Table 9, an elderly gentleman slowly lifted his eyes from his glass. The moment he saw her, the color drained from his face.
His hand froze.
The wine glass slipped from his fingers and shattered across the marble floor.
The entire room turned.
He whispered only two words.
"Little Lily..."
Emily stopped breathing.
No one had called her that name in seventeen years.
Not since the night she disappeared.
A painful memory flashed through her mind—cold rain, flashing police lights, a burning mansion, and a pair of hands pushing her into the back seat of a stranger's car.
She had spent her entire life believing her parents had died in that fire.
Believing she had been abandoned.
Believing nobody had ever searched for her.
But the old man's horrified expression said otherwise.
Before Emily could ask a single question, the hotel's security manager rushed over.
"Sir, is everything alright?"
The old man ignored him.
His shaking eyes never left Emily's face.
"You... you're alive..."
Emily felt tears forming.
"Who are you?"
The old man's lips trembled.
"I'm the man who failed to save you."
Before he could explain another word...
The ballroom doors slammed open.
Three men in black suits entered.
One of them stared directly at Emily.
Then calmly spoke into his earpiece.
"We've found her."
Emily's blood ran cold.
Because she suddenly realized...
Someone had been searching for her all these years.
May you like
But not to bring her home.
To make sure she never remembered who she really was.
