Chapter 4: The Video That Changed Everything

The ballroom fell into complete silence.

Margaret's confident smile disappeared as two detectives stepped toward her.

"You have the right to remain silent..."

But before they could reach her, Margaret laughed.

A slow...

Cold...

Terrifying laugh.

"You really think one recording is enough?"

She snapped her fingers.

The mansion's security monitors flickered to life.

Every screen displayed the same shocking video.

It was footage from seventeen years ago.

The night of the fire.

Emily watched in horror as flames swallowed the mansion. Her father carried her toward the front door while her mother screamed for help.

Then a masked man appeared.

He shoved Emily's father back into the burning hallway.

The room gasped.

Mr. Harrison clenched his fists.

"I've searched for that footage for seventeen years..."

Margaret smirked.

"And you'll never get the original."

She reached into her purse and pulled out a small remote.

"Goodbye."

She pressed the button.

The screens exploded into static.

The security server downstairs erupted in flames.

The evidence was gone.

Or so Margaret believed.

Emily slowly reached into her pocket.

"I don't think so."

She held up her phone.

Everyone stared.

"When the screens turned on... I started recording."

Margaret's face turned ghost white.

"No..."

Emily pressed play.

Every word.

Every confession.

Every second of the fire footage.

Recorded in perfect quality.

The detectives immediately seized the phone.

Margaret suddenly shoved a nearby chair aside and sprinted toward the back exit.

She wasn't running from prison.

She was running toward something hidden.

Emily chased her through the dark mansion until Margaret stopped inside the old library.

She pulled a dusty painting off the wall.

Behind it was a hidden steel safe.

Inside...

There wasn't cash.

There weren't diamonds.

There wasn't a will.

There was a birth certificate.

Margaret held it in trembling hands.

Then she looked at Emily with tears that, for the first time, seemed real.

"You've been asking the wrong question."

Emily frowned.

Margaret whispered words that froze everyone in the room.

"I didn't steal you from your family..."

"I stole you from your real father."

Emily's heart nearly stopped.

"What... did you just say?"

Margaret slowly handed her the birth certificate.

The name listed under Father was not the man who died in the fire.

It belonged to someone else.

Someone powerful.

Someone who had been standing beside Emily...

May you like

Since the very beginning.

Mr. Harrison.
