CHAPTER 1 ā "The Woman Everyone Wanted Gone"

The revolving doors of the towering glass skyscraper spun endlessly as executives in tailored suits rushed toward another busy Monday.
No one noticed the elderly homeless woman sitting quietly on the marble steps.
Her gray coat was torn.
Her shoes barely held together.
A faded backpack rested beside her.
She looked like someone the city had already forgotten.
Employees walked past without making eye contact.
Some wrinkled their noses.
Others whispered.
"Security really needs to clean this place up."
"Clients are arriving."
"She'll scare away investors."
Inside the lobby, security supervisor Derek Collins watched the surveillance monitor with irritation.
"Not again."
He grabbed his radio.
"Get her off my front entrance."
Two security guards approached.
"Ma'am, you need to leave."
The woman smiled politely.
"I'm only waiting."
"Waiting for who?"
She simply answered,
"Someone important."
The guards laughed.
"So are we."
Nearby, several employees pulled out their phones.
One young intern quietly recorded the scene.
A crowd slowly gathered.
Derek finally walked outside himself.
He folded his arms.
"This isn't a shelter."
"You've been sitting here for nearly an hour."
The woman looked up calmly.
"I know."
"You have exactly thirty seconds before I call the police."
She didn't move.
Instead...
She reached into her worn backpack.
Everyone expected her to pull out old food...
Or perhaps a cardboard sign.
Instead...
She carefully unfolded a small leather notebook.
Inside was a single silver key.
Old.
Elegant.
Engraved with the building's original construction date.
Derek burst into laughter.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
The woman gently closed the notebook.
"You'll understand soon."
The employees laughed even harder.
Someone shouted,
"Maybe she thinks she's the queen!"
Another joked,
"Next she'll say she owns the place."
Even the guards smiled.
No one noticed...
The luxury black limousine slowly pulling into the underground entrance.
Inside sat three members of the building's Board of Directors.
May you like
And the moment they looked through the windshield...
Every color drained from their faces.
