Chapter 1 - The Bloodhound’s Allegiance

The lead German Shepherd launched itself straight at Sofia’s throat, its jaws wide, ready to tear flesh from bone. Victor’s men leaned in, expecting the satisfying sound of a scream. Victor himself took a slow sip of his whiskey, his smile reaching his eyes.
But Sofia didn't scream. She didn't even flinch.
Just as the beast’s fangs were inches from her skin, Sofia threw her left hand forward. She wasn't striking the dog—she was holding a small, silver whistle between her teeth, blowing a silent, high-frequency pitch, while her hand flashed a complex series of military tactical signals.
The lead dog’s eyes instantly widened. The primal rage in its gaze vanished, replaced by an absolute, terrifying obedience.
With a brutal twist of its body mid-air, the alpha dog forced itself off-course, crashing heavily into the dirt right at Sofia's feet. The other two dogs skidded to a violent halt, their paws kicking up a massive cloud of dust. Instead of tearing her apart, the three massive predators immediately formed a defensive wall around Sofia, turning their bared teeth and low, rumbling growls directly toward the fence—toward Victor and his men.
Silence suffocated the courtyard. The ice in Victor’s glass rattled.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Victor roared, slamming his glass onto the table, shattering the glass. "Shoot them! Shoot the mutts!"

Sofia wiped a streak of sweat and dirt from her forehead, her lips curling into a cold, lethal smile. She patted the alpha dog's head. "Did you really think you bought top-tier, military-grade attack dogs from a random dealer, Victor? You bought them from the Volkov Syndicate. And who do you think trained them?"
Before Victor’s men could draw their weapons, Sofia whistled again. The dogs charged—not at her, but straight toward the chain-link fence, ripping through the weak wire mesh at the bottom. The guards panicked, firing blindly into the dust. Amidst the chaos, Sofia didn't run away. She ran straight into the cloud of dust, disarming the nearest guard with a swift, brutal kick to the knee, snatching his tactical knife, and vanishing into the shadows of the estate before Victor could even register that his prey had just become the hunter.
