Chapter 4 - Blood and Concrete

It was the alpha dog. The beast slammed into Leo, its jaws clamping onto his wrist. The gun fired wildly into the ceiling before clattering across the floor. Leo screamed in agony as the dog dragged him to the ground.

Sofia grabbed the flash drive, leapt over the struggling men, and snatched the fallen gun. She didn't kill Leo. "Let him bleed," she commanded the dog. The hound released Leo, leaving the traitor groaning in a pool of his own blood. "Your ambition was your downfall, Leo. Enjoy the collapse."

Sofia bolted toward the roof. The estate was burning now; a gas line had ruptured during the firefight below. She could hear the sirens in the distance, but she knew the police wouldn't arrive in time to save anyone here.

When she burst through the rooftop doors into the cool night air, someone was already waiting for her.

Victor stood near the helipad, a helicopter warming up its rotors just fifty yards away. His clothes were torn, his face smeared with soot, but his eyes were wide with psychotic desperation. He held a detonator in his hand.

"Move one step closer, Sofia, and I blow this entire estate to hell," Victor laughed hysterically. "I've rigged the basement with C4. We die together."
