Chapter 3 - The Traitor’s Price

Sofia moved like a phantom through the labyrinthine corridors. She reached the server room, her primary target. If she could download Victor’s financial ledger, she could freeze his assets globally, destroying his empire without firing a single bullet at his army.
She jammed a flash drive into the main terminal. The progress bar crept up slowly: 34%... 56%...
"I knew you'd come here," a voice whispered from the doorway.
Sofia spun around, her knife raised. Standing there was Leo, Victor’s right-hand man and the very person who had secretly helped Sofia infiltrate the compound weeks ago. But Leo wasn't smiling. He had a gun pointed directly at her chest.
"Leo," Sofia whispered, her eyes narrowing. "The download is almost done. We can leave. We can destroy him."
"There is no 'we,' Sofia," Leo said, his voice dripping with malice. "Did you really think I helped you out of the goodness of my heart? I used you to eliminate Victor’s security forces. Once you kill Victor, and once I kill you, I take over the entire city. The Bratva and the Italian Mafia will both belong to me."

The progress bar beeped: Download 100% Complete.
Leo clicked the safety off his gun. Sofia stood frozen, trapped between the terminal and the barrel of a traitor’s weapon. But just as Leo squeezed the trigger, a massive black shape crashed through the ventilation shaft above.
