Chapter 4 - THE HOSPITAL AMBUSHBANG!

The gun discharged wildly into the ceiling as Marcus stumbled forward, blood pooling from his scalp. Spencer didn't hesitate. He tackled Marcus to the Persian rug, striking him twice in the jaw until the attorney went limp, the firearm sliding across the hardwood floor.

Outside, the heavy doors burst open as Spencer’s tactical security team stormed the room, zip-tying Marcus’s hands behind his back.

"Get him out of my sight," Spencer commanded, breathing heavily. "Call the police commissioner directly. I want him in a maximum-security hold with no bail."

"Spencer!" Charlee came running out of the pantry, throwing her arms around his waist. "Is Dexter safe?"

"Dexter is fine, sweetheart," Mrs. Mabel said, catching her breath as she held the sleeping baby safely in her arms. "He slept right through it."

Suddenly, Spencer’s phone rang again. It was the head of security he had dispatched to St. Jude’s Hospital to guard Charlee’s grandmother.

"Mr. Warren! We have a situation!" the guard yelled over static and blaring hospital alarms. "A disguised assassin attempted to shut off Florence Miller’s life support! We engaged the suspect, but another team is moving through the west wing! They aren't just trying to kill Florence—they’re looking for someone else!"

Spencer’s eyes widened. "Who else?"

"Nora Miller! Spencer... Charlee's mother isn't dead! She's been hidden in the psychiatric ward under a false name for seven years!"

Spencer felt a jolt of shock run through his frame. Nora—his half-sister—was alive. Marcus hadn't just tried to erase Spencer’s line; he had systematically imprisoned and hunted down every single person who carried Warren blood.

"Mabel, lock down the mansion. No one enters or leaves," Spencer ordered, pulling his heavy coat back on. "Charlee, put on your shoes. We're going to get your mother."
