Chapter 5 - THE PSYCHIATRIC WARD SECRETSThe rain showed no mercy as Spencer’s armored SUV tore through the city streets toward St. Jude’s Psychiatric Annex. Beside him, Charlee sat wide-eyed, clutching her blue teddy bear.
"My mommy is alive?" Charlee whispered, her small voice trembling with a mixture of hope and terror. "Grandma told me she went to heaven..."
"Grandma was trying to protect you, Charlee," Spencer said softly, reaching back to squeeze her hand. "Your mother was kept away because bad people were afraid of who she really was. But I promise you, nobody is going to hurt your family ever again."
When they arrived, the hospital was in total chaos. Red emergency lights flashed along the corridors, and the sound of sirens echoed in the distance. Spencer, flanked by four armed bodyguards, pushed through the double doors of the psychiatric wing.
Inside, medical files were scattered across the floor, and nurses were hunkered down behind desks.
"Where is Ward 4B?" Spencer demanded of a terrified administrator.
"Down... down the north hallway! But a group of armed men went in two minutes ago!"
Spencer grabbed a security baton from a fallen guard and sprinted down the corridor. Reaching Room 402, he kicked the door open.
Inside, two men in black tactical gear were struggling to haul a frail, bedridden woman out of a window access hatch. The woman had pale skin, wild dark hair, and striking blue-grey eyes—the undeniable Warren family eyes.
"Get away from her!" Spencer roared, charging the first assailant.
A brutal hand-to-hand fight erupted in the small hospital room. Spencer dodged a knife swipe, driving his elbow into the attacker's throat, while his security guards tackled the second mercenary. Within seconds, both hitmen were neutralized and disarmed.
Spencer turned toward the bed. The woman cowered against the wall, her hands shaking hysterically.

"Don't touch me! Don't let Marcus take her!" she shrieked. "Where is my baby? Where is Charlee?"
Charlee stepped into the room, her eyes brimming with tears. "Mommy?"
