Chapter 6 - REUNITED IN THE SHADOWSNora froze. Her wild, frantic eyes locked onto the little girl standing in the doorway. The terror in her face instantly melted into overwhelming disbelief.
"Charlee?" Nora sobbed, falling forward out of the bed onto her knees. "My baby girl... oh God, my baby girl!"
Charlee dropped her teddy bear and ran into her mother’s open arms. The two held each other on the cold floor, weeping uncontrollably as seven years of separation and trauma dissolved in a tearful embrace.
Spencer stood by the doorway, his chest tightening with emotions he had spent decades suppressing. For twelve years, he had lived as a bitter recluse, convinced he was destined to be the last, lonely branch of a corrupted family tree. Now, looking at his sister and his niece, he realized his life was just beginning.
"Nora," Spencer said gently, kneeling beside them. "I'm Spencer. I'm your brother."
Nora looked up, her eyes scanning Spencer's face. "Spencer... Florence told me about you. She said you were trapped in that house with our father's dark secrets. Marcus... Marcus put me here seven years ago right after Charlee was born. He made the doctors declare me insane so I couldn't claim my mother's share of the estate."
"Marcus is in police custody as we speak," Spencer reassured her. "It’s over, Nora. You're safe. Charlee is safe. And my son is safe."
"Your son?" Nora blinked, confused.
"It’s a long story," Spencer smiled faintly. "But it turns out our family just got a lot bigger."
Just as the local police arrived to secure the hospital floor, Spencer’s phone pinged with an urgent notification from his home security network.
