The sprawling Duca estate overlooking the harbor was bathed in warm golden light. There were no hidden threats, no rival syndicates lurking in the shadows, and no fear lingering in the quiet hallways.
In the grand nursery painted in soft ivories and golds, Sophie stood by the wide window, looking out over the sparkling ocean. Cradled gently in her arms was a healthy, beautiful baby boy with a head of thick dark hair and Matteo’s unmistakable intensity in his quiet, watchful eyes.
The heavy oak door creaked open, and heavy, familiar footsteps echoed across the plush carpet.
Matteo walked in, his suit jacket discarded, his sleeves rolled up to his forearms. The ruthless mafia boss who once terrified the entire East Coast melted away the second his eyes landed on his wife and son.
He walked over quietly, wrapping his strong arms around Sophie from behind, resting his chin gently on her shoulder. He pressed a soft, lingering kiss to her temple, then lowered his gaze to the baby.
"He has your eyes," Sophie whispered, a radiant smile touching her lips.
"And your resilience," Matteo replied softly, his voice thick with emotion. "He's a Duca now. But more importantly... he is safe."
Sophie turned slightly within his embrace, leaning her head against his chest. She looked down at her left hand. The diamond ring Matteo had placed there during that cold, desperate dawn at the courthouse caught the morning sunlight, sparkling brilliantly. It was no longer a legal shield or a dangerous hope. It was a crown.
"Do you ever miss the quiet life?" Sophie teased softly, a playful glint in her eyes. "Just a normal waitress, ordinary bills, a peaceful cafe?"
