Vanessa Hart had fled the country, currently living out of a modest apartment in South America under an assumed name, constantly looking over her shoulder for federal extradition warrants.
As for me?
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass window, watching the afternoon sun reflect off the bustling streets below.
The door behind me opened softly.
Luca walked in, carrying two glasses of champagne, handing one to me with a warm, genuine smile that had become my favorite part of every day.
"To new beginnings," he said quietly, raising his glass.
I clinked my glass against his, the crystal ringing out clear and bright in the quiet office.
