Chapter 7 - THE GHOST FROM THE PASTI forwarded the photograph and the encrypted email directly to Luca DeSantis and my father’s head of security before my car had even crossed the bridge into Brooklyn.

By sunrise, our intelligence team had run facial recognition on the background of the photograph, cross-referencing shipping manifests, flight logs, and old federal wire transfers.

The results came back within hours.

Marcus Vance wasn't just a former business mentor. He was a convicted felon who had faked his own death six years ago during a federal investigation into international money laundering—using Ryan Caldwell as his primary front man to launder stolen capital through shell companies.

Ryan hadn't built Caldwell Capital with his own brilliance. He had built it with Vance’s stolen blood money, and Vance had finally come to collect his dividend.

"This changes everything," Luca said, standing over the conference table in our downtown office as digital files flashed across the smart-screen. "If Vance is back, he won't just want his money. He'll want control of Moretti-Caldwell Holdings, because that's where all of those laundered assets were eventually absorbed during our acquisition."

"Which means," my father added grimly, "Ryan wasn't just cheating on you, Bella. He was keeping a sleeping tiger in the basement, and when we destroyed his company, we accidentally woke it up."

I crossed my arms, staring at the profile of Marcus Vance on the screen—a cold, sharp-featured man with eyes like shards of broken glass.

"Ryan isn't dangerous anymore," I said quietly. "He's desperate. And a desperate man makes predictable mistakes. If Vance is in New York, he'll reach out to Ryan first, because Ryan is the only one who knows where the remaining offshore accounts are hidden."

"What do you want to do?" Luca asked, stepping closer to me, his tone shifting from professional collaborator to something far more protective, far more intimate.

"We don't wait for them to make the first move," I said, a cold smile touching my lips. "We set the stage, send out an invitation, and let Vance walk right into the trap Ryan prepared for us."
