Chapter 4 - THE BETRAYAL UNRAVELEDRyan dropped onto one of the kitchen barstools, burying his face in his hands. The arrogant, untouchable CEO was completely gone, replaced by a desperate, hollowed-out man whose life had evaporated overnight.

"Vanessa..." he muttered through his fingers. "Where is Vanessa?"
"Ah, your loyal partner," I said, pouring myself another sip of coffee. "You might want to check your personal email. I sent her a little parting gift about twenty minutes ago."
Ryan’s head snapped up. "What did you do?"
"Nothing malicious. I simply forwarded her the bank records showing that the shell corporation you set up in her name wasn't a tax shelter—it was a personal liability vehicle designed to take the fall for your federal securities violations. Every penny of embezzlement you funneled through her name is currently logged under her social security number."
Color drained from his face for the second time in twelve hours. "You... you framed her?"
"No, Ryan," I corrected sharply. "I exposed the truth. You’re the one who used her name to hide your illegal trades because you were too cowardly to take the risk yourself. Did you really think a woman like Vanessa—who only ever loved your status and your bank account—would stick around the moment she realized she was legally positioned to take forty years in federal prison for your crimes?"
As if on cue, Ryan’s phone—lying discarded on the marble counter—flashed with a notification.
He lunged for it like a drowning man grabbing a lifeline.
Vanessa: We are done. Do not ever contact me again. My lawyer will be in touch about the restraining order.
Ryan stared at the screen, his lips trembling. "She... she blocked me. She took the second car. She cleaned out our weekend apartment in the Hamptons."
"Well," I said smoothly, "at least you have your freedom. Isn't that what you wanted? No quiet wife holding you back, no nagging reminders of loyalty. Just you and the open road."
He looked up at me, pure hatred flashing through his despair. "You planned this. Every single bit of it. You played the victim for three years just so you could watch me fall."
"No, Ryan," I said, my voice dropping an octave, cold and absolute. "I loved you once. I supported you when you had nothing. But you chose to destroy the woman who stood by you, and you replaced her with a reflection of your own shallow greed. You wrote your own ending the moment you thought you could erase me."
Before he could answer, the private elevator chime rang again.
Two uniformed security guards stepped out, flanked by one of my father’s senior legal counsels.

"Mr. Ryan Caldwell," the attorney said, holding out a thick manila folder. "You are hereby served with formal notice of eviction from all corporate properties, as well as a restraining order prohibiting you from coming within five hundred feet of any Moretti-affiliated enterprise or residence. Please leave the premises immediately."
Ryan looked at the guards, then at me. He opened his mouth to protest, but the words caught in his throat. Defeated, broken, and utterly ruined, he turned and walked into the elevator without looking back.
