Chapter 5 - The Web Unravels

As Richard was hauled out of the boardroom in silent, disgraced shock, the true scale of his betrayal began to surface across the corporate network.
Marcus placed a secure tablet in front of me on the mahogany table. On the screen was a decrypted ledger detailing months of back-channel communications between Richard and a network of corporate saboteurs. He hadn't just planned to push me out of a helicopter; he had systematically orchestrated a hostile takeover of Hayes Global’s bio-tech subsidiary, intending to sell our proprietary neural-interface patents to a foreign conglomerate the moment my death certificate was signed.
"Mrs. Hayes," David Vance said, leaning over the table with a grim expression. "The federal prosecutors are moving to freeze all of his personal assets immediately. But there’s something else you need to see. It involves his digital footprint prior to the flight."
I scrolled through the files. The deeper we dug, the darker it got. Richard hadn't just been unfaithful with money; he had spent the last three years systematically isolating me, doctoring my medical charts with subtle hormone suppressants to keep me weak during the first trimester, and planting a bug in my personal study.
Every gentle smile, every forehead kiss, every tender word about our child—it had all been a scripted performance designed to keep me docile while he built his guillotine.
"He thought he was the hunter," I whispered, resting a protective hand over my steady, growing belly. "He had no idea he was walking into a trap I laid the day I found his second passport."
The board members sat in terrified silence, realizing how close they had come to backing the wrong horse. One by one, the directors who had nodded along with Richard’s emergency succession plan began sliding their resignation letters across the table.
"Accept all of them, David," I instructed without looking up. "Strip every last co-conspirator of their stock options and initiate internal audits on every single department head Richard ever recommended."

"Consider it done, Amelia," David replied, pride flashing in his eyes. "What’s our next move regarding the public relations fallout?"
I stood up, adjusting my jacket, a dangerous, thrilling adrenaline surging through my veins. "Let the media have the story. Tell them the truth: Hayes Global survives its CEO's attempted assassination, and the queen is back on her throne."
