Chapter 12 - The Pact of Three Titans
Two hours later, inside a high-security subterranean conference room beneath downtown Seattle, three men sat around a sleek slate table.
Victor Caldwell sat at the head, his jaw set in stone, the photograph of Sophie’s mother resting beside his coffee cup. To his right sat Alexander Sterling, whose own life had been upended by a similar revelation months prior. And sitting opposite them was Julian Moretti, the former Capo who had traded his empire for a quiet life, but whose eyes still carried the terrifying, calculating depth of a man who knew every underworld secret on the continent.
"They know about her biometric key," Julian said, breaking the silence as he slid a decrypted intelligence report across the table. "The Syndicate isn't just looking for a lost child, Victor. They're looking for the genetic cipher that unlocks Arthur Halcyon’s quantum shipping ledgers—the same ledgers my family and Alexander's enemies fought over for decades."
Victor rubbed his temples, a splitting migraine pounding behind his eyes. "I don't give a damn about quantum ledgers or shipping codes. I care about Sophie. She thinks I'm her dad. She asked me this morning if we could bake cookies when it snows again."
Alexander leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, his gaze steady and filled with profound empathy. "I know that feeling, Victor. When I found Aura at the bus stop, I thought I was just saving a stray kid. I didn't realize I was stepping into a war zone. But you aren't fighting alone anymore."
Julian nodded slowly. "My retired security network in the Pacific Northwest is already sweeping your building. But defense isn't enough. If you want to keep Sophie, we have to cut the head off the snake."
