Chapter 6 - THE DEAD MAN'S SWITCH"What is that?" Detective Lin asked, advancing slowly with her gun raised toward the terminal.

I ran toward the glowing console, my fingers flying across the industrial mechanical keyboard connected to the server stack. The screen was filled with scrolling green lines of code, complex financial algorithms, and a real-time global transfer network map.
"It’s a dead man's switch," I announced, my throat tightening. "When Ryan’s mercenaries breached the main house power grid, it triggered an automated protocol programmed into this private server."
"A transfer protocol?" Ethan asked, coming up beside me.
"Worse," I said, scanning the code rapidly. "This server isn't just storing evidence. It's connected directly to the Federal Reserve wire network via a stolen high-frequency trading link created by my father’s old banking firm."
Margaret gasped from behind us, where Colonel Vance was keeping her restrained. "That's... that's the vault system your father was working on before he died!"
I glared back at her. "You knew about this?"
"I... I didn't know how it worked!" Margaret sobbed, her face pale with terror. "Your father told me he created an automated script to lock down all stolen funds if anyone tried to murder him or access his private accounts without authorization! He called it Project Archangel!"
"Project Archangel," I repeated, my mind racing. "Dad didn't just hide the money to keep it from you, Mother. He built an automated digital net to catch everyone involved in his murder!"
"Explain, Maya," Ethan urged, watching the countdown timer drop below six minutes.
"In five minutes," I explained, pointing to the glowing world map on the screen, "this server will automatically upload every single recorded conversation, every forged document, every bank record, and every cartel wire transfer directly to the Interpol, SEC, and Department of Justice mainframes. It will issue automated arrest warrants for every high-ranking member of Victor Vance’s syndicate worldwide!"
"That sounds like a good thing," Lin said.
"It is a good thing," I said, "except for one detail. To prevent the cartel from physical destruction of the evidence before the upload completes... Dad installed a hardwired thermal demolition charge inside this vault floor!"
Silence fell like a hammer.
"Demolition charge?" Vance yelled. "You mean this room is rigged to explode?!"
"If the system detects an unauthorized manual override or if the timer reaches zero without entering the Master Forensic Key," I confirmed, sweat dripping down my forehead, "it triggers thermite charges to incinerate the physical servers—and the entire bunker along with it—to prevent military-grade data from falling into enemy hands!"
"What’s the Master Forensic Key?" Ethan asked urgently. "Do you have it?"
May you like
"I don't know!" I cried, my fingers trembling over the keys as the clock ticked down to 03:15... 03:14... "Dad never gave me a key! He only gave me a silver locket on my eighteenth birthday and told me never to open it unless I was faced with an impossible choice!"
I reached into my shirt collar and pulled out the small, worn silver locket I had worn around my neck for ten years.
