Chapter 7 - THE FINAL DECRYPTIONWith trembling hands, I popped the clasp of the silver locket.

Inside, where a photograph should have been, was a microscopic QR code etched onto a tiny sheet of stainless steel, accompanied by a single line of engraved text:
“Truth is not found in what people say, but in what they hide behind their numbers. I love you, Maya.”
"It's an encryption key!" I gasped.
I detached the tiny steel plate from the locket, pulled an optical scanner cable from the server terminal, and passed the red laser beam over the microscopic code.
The terminal beeped violently.
ACCESS GRANTED: WELCOME, MAYA VANCE.
DECRYPTION SEQUENCE INITIATED.
The red countdown timer froze at 00:43 seconds.
A massive wave of blue data lines began sweeping across the monitor. High-resolution video files, audio recordings from five years ago, bank transactions, and signed confessions loaded onto the screen automatically.
One video file began playing automatically in the center of the screen.
It was a video recorded by my father, recorded seventy-two hours before his death. He sat at his office desk, looking tired, bruised, but resolute.
"If you are watching this, Maya," my father's voice echoed through the concrete bunker, smooth and full of deep affection, "it means my time ran out. It means Margaret and Ryan took the bait. I am so sorry I couldn't protect you from the greed that corrupted our family."
Margaret let out a horrific, strangled wail, dropping to her knees on the cold floor, covering her face in unbearable shame.
"I built this trap not for revenge," my father's video recording continued, "but to ensure that when the truth finally came out, you would be safe, and you would have the ultimate authority to destroy their syndicate forever. The key to ending this is not just arresting Ryan or Margaret. Look under file index 'Omega-9,' Maya. That is where the real monster is hidden."
I quickly typed the command, opening file 'Omega-9.'
A high-definition passport photo appeared on the screen, accompanied by full government intelligence files.
The photograph was not Victor Vance.
It was Brittany.
My sister-in-law.
The "quiet, pretentious" girl who had stood in my hallway hours ago, spitting at my feet and insulting my social status.
"What..." Detective Lin gasped, leaning closer to the monitor. "Brittany isn't Ryan's wife... she’s Victor Vance’s chief operating officer!"
"She wasn't following Ryan," Ethan said, his voice laced with absolute cold realization. "Ryan was just her puppet. She was running the entire operation from inside our family!"
Suddenly, the heavy blast door behind us let out a metallic screech!
The external override mechanism on the blast door was being engaged from the outside!
CREAK... CLANG!
The six-inch steel door swung open slowly.
Standing in the doorway, framed by the smoke of the burning house above, was Brittany. She no longer wore her designer heels or expensive jacket. She was dressed in full black tactical armor, holding a suppressed assault rifle, flanked by four heavily armed syndicate operators.

She looked at us, her lip curling into a cold, cruel, triumphant smile.
"Hello, family," Brittany purred, raising her rifle directly at my head. "Did you really think the 'quiet little office girl' was just along for the ride?"
