Claire stood by the expansive glass windows, wearing a sharp, tailored ivory blazer, watching the steady stream of traffic far below. Her life was no longer defined by what she had lost, but by what she had built.
Her phone buzzed on the desk. She walked over and picked it up. It was a group message notification from the chat thread she shared with Brooke, Elena, and Maya.
Brooke: Reminder! Girls’ weekend at the Cape house starts this Friday at 5 PM sharp. No excuses!
Elena: I’m bringing the wine. The good stuff.
Maya: And I’m handling dessert. Claire, you better not be stuck working late!
Claire smiled, her fingers dancing across the screen as she replied.
Claire: I’m officially logging off at 4 PM. See you all at the beach.

She locked her phone, grabbed her leather portfolio, and turned off her desk lamp. As she walked out of her office, locking the heavy glass door behind her, she paused for a second to catch her reflection in the glass.
