Chapter 7 - THE CONFRONTATIONRosa didn't scream. She didn't cry. She walked into Ethan’s study, placed the folder on his desk, and looked him in the eye.

"Was it worth it?" she asked. "Was the empire worth the three years of hell I went through? Was the legacy worth Lily growing up without a father?"
Ethan stared at the documents, his face turning ghost-white. He slumped back into his chair, defeated. "I couldn't tell you, Rosa. If you knew, you would have come back, and he would have killed you. I had to build enough power to destroy him before I could bring you back."
"You played God with our lives, Ethan," she said, her voice trembling. "And you lost."

She walked out. She packed a bag for herself and Lily. She didn't want his money. She didn't want his protection. She wanted the life she had built for herself, away from the shadow of the Caldwell name.
Ethan watched from the doorway as she started toward the gates. He had all the money in the world, and for the first time, he realized it was worthless. He couldn't buy back the time. He couldn't buy back her trust.
