Chapter 6 - The Broken Prayer

Hook: The billionaire falls to his knees, but the words he speaks are not what anyone expected.
The live broadcast stayed on. The camera operator’s hand shook slightly, capturing the raw, unscripted drama of a billionaire’s public downfall.
Benjamin turned to Lily, who was still clutching her rag doll, watching him with wide, hopeful eyes.
"Lily," Benjamin said softly, kneeling down on the cold linoleum floor so he was at her eye level. "I told you I didn't know the right words to talk to God. And I don't. But I promised I would teach you."
The mother stopped pumping the bag for a split second, staring at Benjamin in disbelief, before resuming her rhythmic, life-saving squeezes.
"You don't need fancy words, Lily," Benjamin said, a tear finally escaping his eye and cutting a clean path through the dried blood on his face. "God doesn't care about how important we are. He cares about how broken we are."
Benjamin closed his eyes. For the first time in three years, he reached into the dark, silent chambers of his heart where his faith had been buried. He pictured his mother’s face, her soft voice telling him that no one is ever too far gone to be forgiven.
"God," Benjamin whispered, his voice trembling on the live broadcast. "I’m not asking you to save me. I deserve whatever is coming. I deserve the dark. But this little girl... she didn't do anything wrong. Her sister didn't do anything wrong. They are innocent. If you have any mercy left for a man who forgot your name, take my life. Take my money. Take my freedom. But let Chloe live. Please. Let her live."
He opened his eyes and looked at Lily. "That's how you pray, Lily. You just tell Him the truth."
Lily smiled, a beautiful, radiant smile that seemed to light up the dark room. She stepped forward, placed her tiny hand on Benjamin's wet shoulder, and closed her eyes.
"Dear God," Lily said, her sweet voice carrying through the silent room and into the homes of millions of viewers watching the live stream. "Thank you for sending Benjamin. He’s not a bad man. He’s just been lost for a long time. Please fix Chloe, and please help Benjamin find his way home."
For a moment, there was absolute silence. Only the sound of the wind outside and the rhythmic whoosh-whoosh of the manual oxygen bag.
Then, the lights flickered.
Once.
Twice.
And with a sudden, deafening roar, the hospital’s main backup generator hummed to life. The overhead lights surged, bathing the room in warm, golden light. The medical monitors beside Chloe’s bed beeped, their screens flashing back to life with green lines.
But the relief was short-lived.
