Chapter 9 - The Legacy of Vincent ValeThree months later.

The grand ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Harbor House community center on Beacon Hill drew city officials, local philanthropists, journalists, and dozens of smiling children. The building was a magnificent blend of modern architecture and historic brick, featuring secure play yards, state-of-the-art classrooms, and a large courtyard filled with white lilies.
Standing on the front steps, holding a pair of giant ceremonial golden scissors, was Claire Bennett.
To her left stood Sophie, wearing a brand-new yellow dress, grinning proudly at the flashing cameras.
And standing slightly behind them, dressed in his immaculate black suit with his hands folded neatly behind his back, was Dominic Vale. He wasn't hiding in the shadows anymore. He was standing right in the sunlight.
"Are you ready, Sophie?" Claire asked, smiling down at the little girl.
"Ready!" Sophie shouted.
Snip.
The gold scissors cut through the thick red ribbon, and the crowd erupted into cheers and applause. Confetti rained down from the upper balconies, fluttering through the crisp Boston air.
As the crowd surged forward to tour the new facility, Sophie broke away from the group. She ran over to Dominic, grabbing his hand and pulling him toward the courtyard.
"Come on, Mr. Quiet! You have to see the new playground!"
Dominic allowed himself to be pulled forward, a genuine, unburdened smile finally gracing his face—a smile that had been buried beneath decades of darkness, waiting for a little girl in a yellow raincoat to dig it out.
