Chapter 1 - The Heavy Oak Doors OpenThe brass handle of the heavy courtroom doors turned with a sharp, metallic click that cut through the judge's low mutterings. Every head in the room whipped around, leaving Evelyn’s triumphant smirk frozen on her face and wiping the smug grin right off Julian’s mouth.

Judge Harrison frowned, slamming his gavel twice. "Order in the court! Who dares interrupt these proceedings without—"

The doors swung inward with a heavy, deliberate creak.

A tall man in a midnight-blue United States Army dress uniform stepped across the threshold. Four silver stars gleamed brilliantly on his shoulders, catching the harsh fluorescent courtroom light. Behind him marched three military police officers, their faces carved from stone, hands resting casually yet menacingly on their holstered sidearms.

The gallery went dead silent. You could hear a pin drop on the polished marble floor.

Julian’s color drained instantly. He gripped the edge of the wooden table so hard his knuckles turned ghostly white. "Who... who is that?" he whispered frantically to his lawyer, his voice suddenly pitching an octave higher.

I didn't answer. I just watched as General Marcus Thorne—a living legend in the Joint Chiefs of Staff—slowly scanned the room with eyes that had seen wars most men couldn't imagine. He locked eyes with me, gave a microscopic nod of respect, and then turned his ice-cold gaze directly onto the terrified prosecutor.

"General Marcus Thorne, United States Army," his voice boomed, rich, deep, and carrying the absolute authority of a man accustomed to nations obeying his commands. "I am here on a Level-One Priority Directive from the Department of Defense. This courtroom is now under federal military jurisdiction."

Evelyn staggered back against the witness stand, her breath catching in her throat. "This... this is an outrage! My daughter is a criminal! She forged her papers!"

General Thorne didn't even look at her. He reached into his leather portfolio, pulled out a thick document stamped with screaming red classification seals, and walked right up to the judge's bench.

"With all due respect, Your Honor," Thorne said smoothly, handing over the file. "The only crime committed in this room today is perjury, treason, and the illegal tampering with classified military assets by civilian conspirators."
